B_Bogus
So, four marking options then 🙂 The video would certainly persuade me to order a couple if I hadn't already done so...
czaralko
Definitely a nice kit! They kept the instructions very wingnut wings like
One 48
This is going to sell like hot cakes, wonder if it will be a limited run like older Wingnut Wing kits were? Have one on pre order from Hannants, so should be OK ... I hope?

KITCAT
Well it looks good with WNW's hallmark all over it but we do get decal options so my order goes in tomorrow.

Simon Cornes
Interesting review. I recall speaking to Richard Alexander about the the Lancaster and bemoaning the fact that it wasn’t yet released and he said that the test shots had shown faults and they wouldn’t release it until it was right. Looks like Meng were in a similar position with the Tripe but without the quality control Wingnut provided they are just producing it with annoying faults that Wingnut would have eliminated. Ah well, I have 3 on order so I’ll just have to live with the faults and be glad for the bits that are good out of the box!

Simon, I have the Roden 1/32 Dr.1 and it has faults too, bought some A/M for it, decals too, will be interesting to see and compare this Meng/WnW kit with my Roden. If there are faults ... i feel sure A/M will become available for it too over time ... I hope. I'm not a detail fussppot though, if it looks rights its fine with me. Simon Cornes
I totally agree with you, my point was that the Alexander quality filter is no longer there and the result is evident from the in box review. What I should also have said is that we are getting almost Wingnut quality at a significant fraction of the usual price. I’m glad that the kit is actually available to buy and, like you, I also have the Roden and Encore kits. They all look like tripes to me!
JohnT
Just to add that I think that Dave Klaus in the USA may have some am decals left in his Fine Art of Decals range. Apparently got a good review from Windsock.

sroubos
This is disappointing. A WNW kit at Meng pricepoint, great, but 65 quid is still a lot of money for a 1/32 WWI kit. I only have two WNW kits but they are worth the cash as they are just superlative in every respect. But getting a WNW kit for 20% less but with a whole host of annoying issues (bent wings is the really nasty one from my PoV), that's not a good buy in my book. I was going to buy this unseen but now I'll wait for a few folks to actually build it first.

You may be right but you have to balance that against the Roden Dr.I and also be canny about how you buy your Meng kits. I have one on order from Lucky Models for considerably less than the amount you quoted - have a look at eBay for both Lucky Models and Enchanted89 - but also two on order from Model Hobbies for the kind of figure you mention. At the end of the day this is a Wingnut kit, but not one which has been fully 'refined' by Wingnut before being put on sale. You are getting what seems to be pretty good etch - which you wouldn't get with Roden - and a range of markings, probably on a par with Roden. As has been said here and elsewhere, the real acid test will be how good the kit is 'in the plastic', once you've cleaned up the relatively minor 'faults' - bent wings are obviously not good but straighten in hot water, as per the review. I suspect that it will sell extremely well and that the likes of Pheon will release some interesting alternative markings to go with Aviattic's already mind boggling range of 'streaked' airframe paint finishes so that you may feel the need to have at least another Meng tripe! This is only my opinion and I really am looking forward to getting my hands on the kit as soon as possible. I agree, it will certainly be interesting to see a few WIP's and also the forthcoming Ray Rimmell Windsock special on building the kit
One 48
65 quid in UK Coinage is a lot of dough for sure, but if this were a full blown WnW release and they never had any mishaps, it would have been much more, more like £90 for this, easy ... I betcha, WnW luxury cardboard boxing could not have been cheap to do. I guess what I'm saying is, and my feelings alone ... I really don't mind paying a little less for a little less refined kit of this subject from Meng if that's what it truly turns out to be ... and we don't have a choice really, the WnW evolved version is not happening, so lets embrace this one, please, am sure its very close to what it could have been for most of us Not heard from Hannant's on my backorder about this kit for a while, cant be long now, surely for a UK touchdown? Really enjoyed the hype on this one ... thanks guys. Going to build my Roden with A/M Dr.1 and this Meng kit side by side for sure. One will be Red, One will be Green streaky finished Edited August 28, 2020 by One
TEXANTOMCAT
I think it may be worth a bit of a wait - the 1/48 Meng Mustang 'pop together' - which IMHO was brilliant had an RRP of £35 but within 12 months could be had for under £20....

Wise words. If Meng supply a lot to the UK then you can be sure that they'll start to accumulate on shop shelves. Probably the kind of thing that Wonderland will sell off for £25 a pop at SMW at some point in the future!! I got an email from Royal Mail to say that mine was shipped from Hong Kong today so I'm hoping it will be with me within maybe 5 or 6 days? I live in hope!

I hear what you say my friend, wise men wait, unfortunately I'm not a wise man ... I want it all, and i want it now ... just paraphrasing some Queen music lyrics there :) Seriously, dont mind paying a little premium for this on day one, it might be a limited run, who knows? One of my biggest scale model regrets in life was holding out on the orginal glass nose 1/32 HK B-25 ... I thought ... I'll wait, and before i knew it, they were all snapped up
Simon Cornes
I feel your pain. I bought a glass nose B-25J from a chap on another website that specialises in 'Large' models. Came from Germany and it included quite a few extras. Seemed expensive until I worked out the cost of the extras and I asked myself whether I would have bought them too anyway and then the price was actually very reasonable! But of course it was re-released, and the price went up. Wonderful! What gets me is you can often buy them cheaper in European countries. Local market prices I suppose plus some places seem to specialise in discount prices. Buy them when you get the chance eh? You could be right about jumping now otherwise you might miss out!
firefly7
I recently seen one ( 1/32 HK B-25 g/n ) for around $ 168. I'll keep my eye out and inform you One 48. Cheers.
B_Bogus
I pre-ordered a couple from Luckymodel and they arrived this morning. Even though I got clobbered £13 in import duties they still came in at less than £42 each I'll post photos later, but I can say the moulding quality is equivalent to WNW - no flash or other artefacts as seen on the other review. The bowing of the wings is apparent on both my kits, so slightly disappointing, but not insurmountable. One negative I have to say is that the cockpit coaming has cut-outs for the ammo feeds, and this results in an extremely thin section which had broken of one of mine. IMHO there really should have been a sprue support here.
Simon Cornes
Mine arrived on Monday so well done Lucky Model. I would agree with B_Bogus regarding condition of the parts but the ailerons on the main sprue (A) have the flash along the trailing edges so that's got to go!
