TonyOD
Haven't kicked mine off yet but I've had a scan through what's going on and there are some really interesting builds. I had no idea there was such diversity to the equipment used in the Gulf War.
stevej60
I've just picked up a real sow's ear from e-bay in the form of Zhengdefu's 1/48 M1A1 THEN found the review which reveal's all! worst issue is the six pairs of road wheels instead of seven I suspect those naughty folk's at the factory might have put a Tamiya example on the box art! Still it was only 10 quid posted has the motor present so the Grandson can play with it when it's done https://www.scalemates.com/kits/zhengdefu-df516-m1a1-abrams-tank--581229
rob Lyttle
I'm very tempted to throw my hat into the ring here. I've got a couple of simple kits loitering at the bottom of the pile. While Shootin & Bombin subjects aren't really my main interest at the moment, I find the group builds are great for motivation and tackling less familiar types of builds. I have a Buccaneer by Revell "Fiona" and an A10 by Academy that purports to be Capt, Kim Campbell's plane. I'm sure there are accuracy issues with both of them, but it would be good to get them done oob and no messing, no extras, no fuss. Once I have the Heller GB finished, I'll have a look see...... 👍
Jabba
Unfortunately Kim Campbells aircraft would not be allowed as she flew in Op Iraqi Freedom. The A-10 would however be permitted, but with different markings.
rob Lyttle
Aha, right, of course. I hadn't split the 2 conflicts into separate events in my head! 🤪 The old Jolly Rogers "Seein' Eye" Bucc is the right era though, isn't it? Course it is, I've done paintings of them escorting Tornadoes in desert pink! The A10 kit does look OK.... I'll see what I can find 👍
HadesOmega
Hi all, I'm interested in participating in this GB (my first ever). Would the Northrup F5 be an eligible subject? And if so, what livery is recommended? Thanks! 🙂 Edited January 31, 2021 by HadesOmega
Jabba
The Saudis and Bahrainis used the F-5E. See in the following links. https://dstorm.eu/pages/en/saudi/f-5.html https://dstorm.eu/pages/en/bahrain/f-5.html

Jabba
Yep same as normal, except the RAM that was applied to some leading edges of wings etc. A bit long but have a look at the second entry here:- https://www.dstorm.eu/pages/color/uk.html
John Masters
I have this... And this... The Intruder decals are form 1992...is that a typo? And even though the box top of the Su-22 says 'Desert Storm' the profile inside says 'Desert Shield'--1989. What to do?
Jabba
The markings on the box art for the A-6E are from 1991.

Jabba
Well the Su-22s were used in the Gulf, or ran away to Iran. To be honest I have one of those in my collection in those markings, so I would say yes allowed.

In more than one squadron, the mission markings were applied after Desert Storm combat operations. I believe that is the case with the two Marine A-6E squadrons. In that sense, it can potentially be from their post ware deployment, but it's more likely a typo The squadron did transition to the F/A-18D in Sept. 1992. Those that stayed didn't fair well and those that ran away...well, they ran away, didn't they? Once again, I think it's a typo.

Jabba
Today is goes homie day. All our Pumas had been in the Al Jubail area and had been stripped down so that they could be transported back to the UK/Germany by air transport. We were bused down to Dhahran in out best Desert Camo uniform ( we had been told to keep one set fresh for this day as we did not get these until very late). We then flew back the Gutersloh whilst the UK element went back to Brize by Tristar. On arrival at Gut we were met by an umpah band and families. After collecting our backs my mate and I went back to our rooms in the block, dumped them off there and decided to go straight down to the mally, as apart from a night stop in Bahrain no beer had been drunk since November. On arrival at the mally we were all greeted with big cheers pats on the backs and all that, but when we went to pay for a drink we could not. I did not put my hand in my pocket all night, even though I tried to many a time. The next thing I remember was waking up in my bed, how I got there I did not know, but I must have followed the rail that went from the Mally to our block at the end of the main drag at Gut. We had the next week off to get things sorted and all was fine until on the Weds afternoon after getting out of my mates car after going to town the sirens went off (Gutersloh did this every Weds as a test). Both he and I reached for where our gas masks should have been, we both then looked at each other and laughed. With things sorted out we all then got a months leave, so it was then back to blighty.

Benner
with regards to the pylon adaptor, you'll have to scratch build one I believe. ... at least you only need to make 1. Check out what this guy did for his build: F-4E
