Tim's unusual scheme Chippy - COMPLETED

Recommended Posts

Rejoining with this familiar Airfix kit, costing me £3 at IPMS Avon show in 2015.

Familiar to anyone in the ATC during the 1970s - I enjoyed several air experience flights in Chipmunks.

I remember building an RAF training base with my train-set at that time, Chipmunk being one of the aircraft, along with a Bulldog, JP3, Hawk, and the MRCA.

This Chipmunk being the only available resident in my stash.

Parts and decals,

With my plan to build as the Spitmunk,  as far as my spare decals will allow.

I found this colour plan to follow.

Interior decor, before I start assembling.

Pilot is from  a modern jet, with crash-helmet.  I''ve removed his oxygen tube, but left the mask.

I've found photos two different camo schemes for this airrcraft.  I'll stick with that schematic diagram.

And here is another Chipmunk that an adult built - thinking of those air experience flights at Filton.

Have fond memories of pootling around the Sharwbury area in the good ol Chippie. No aerobatics for me, I just loved to fly them for my time.

Looking forward to your build.

There was a Chipmunk at Cosford used by the gliding club for towing the gliders up to height that had a Bulldog engine in it.

I'm going to have to reduce the height of the pilot's head for the canopy to fit.

Edited,   I removed the driver's seat, which lowered him sufficiently for the canopy to fit.

That does look very smart Tim and the canopy really does look very clear.

Very smart - did you give the canopy a coat of varnish or similar - it looks very shiny?

Dunked in Klear for about an hour, then drained and dried - avoiding dust.

Routine treatment for all my canopies now, typically at least two days before fitting.
