1/48 Airfix Hurricane underside light

I’m currently building a 1/48 Airfix Hurricane and there is a small round hole in the underside, which has a clear plastic part to go in it. So, on the assumption that it is a light, does anyone know what colour it should be ? The instructions make no mention of paint, for this part, at all.

This photo from Mark Hayward , posted by Troy in the mahoosive Hurricane thread shows it as amber.

Great modeling reference photo, as it not only shows the amber recognition light, it also shows the radiator braces and actuating rod! Thanks for posting it!

Many thanks, thought it might be a coloured. Can’t say I’m very impressed with this kit.

Which kit are you building? The recent-ish  2015 Mk1 or the older 1979 effort?

Kit number A05127A. Box has ‘Design and Tooling 2015’. Not sure how accurate this is though, as I’ve just added the Airfix Hawker Hunter (New Tool) to my stash and that has ‘Design and Tooling 2018’ on the box.
The Hurricane has some poor part fit, nothing filler can’t cure though.

Jon.

Knickers I did mine silver with a black dot for the bulb filament. No ones going to see it but I need to change it ASAP

If you have some Tamiya Clear Red ( X-27 ) just put a small drop on the clear bit. Maybe thin it a bit, too, so it looks more orange than red.

I am trying to find an Orange Felt tip pen I am sure I have somewhere in my box of bits. If not the lens is only held in with GS Hypo cement so I should be able to pop it out and if I damage the lens removing it I could use some PVA to make a new lens

I’ve used X-26 Clear Orange. Looks ok.

They were not always orange. Sometimes they were green and I've also seen them uncoloured. The glass came in various colours and is quickly interchangeable.

See http://spitfirespares.co.uk/Lighting.html

Interesting. Mine is now orange.

Right! I forgot about that one. I don't have any so I used a little Clear Red. Looks close enough.

A drop of orange food coloring added to white glue or Future would work, too- just mix and paint over the top of the clear lens. The food coloring/white glue technique works great to make red, green, amber IFF, postion, passing, or nav lights, as well!
