Old Airfix 1/72 Gnat Whiffed, (No.1)

Recommended Posts

To keep the story short, I was given a load of 'scrap' kits. Sorting through the parts I was able to get enough parts for several old-tool Airfix Red Arrows Gnats.

I decided to Whif them.

This is the first finished.

I don't think that I've ever whiffed a gnat before. There have been a few other events in my life but I can't describe them here, for fear of being excommunicated from the forum.

Oh yeah, nice work!

Daft newbie question (sorry!) - what does whiffed mean?

@jackroadkill

Whiffed = short for What If'd

What if ?

In this case What If the Luftwaffe bought and used the Gnat T.1 as a primary jet trainer ?

Because they never did.

What might it look like?

Never be sorry asking a question. None of us were ever born with this info nor got it at our mother's knee, or other low places

as explained, a "what if"

Can be a very creative endeavour, as you can then work out  a backstory.

One member here, @The Wooksta! has done an entire series of 'what if' Spitfires,  over 100 models I think

https://www.whatifmodellers.com/index.php?topic=34762.0

but plausible, some are quite subtle,

If you have the time, explore the world of Dizzy Fugu in Flickr

https://www.flickr.com/photos/dizzyfugu/albums

Scroll down, find the aircraft albums an album of what if's and explore, some really creative modelling, with back stories, and what kits got chopped into what...  warning, there is an awful lot here and it's quite addictive seeing what's been turned into what and why.

@Black Knight   look forward to what's next

Thanks chaps, much appreciated.  Turns out I'm doing a whif as we speak, but didn't know the term!
