Benes-Mraz Be.150 Beta Junior (Legato 1/72)

Recommended Posts

Hi!
In steps of my last build, I go on with the light civilian tourist aircraft - now it is the elegant Czechoslovak Benes-Mraz Be.150 Beta Junior, the successor of the first in production line Be.50 Beta Minor. There are only few information and photos left to present day and most of them are HERE. The kit is old resin Legato. It's been quite a long time since the last time I worked with a resin model kit (last time the Supermarine 224) but I hope it'll go well.
I started with straightening the wavy wings and banana fuselage and then moved to the cockpit. I made a new cockpit floor, bulkhead, headrests, sticks and other details. I decided to open the cockpit doors on the port side, which meant creating new doors from scratch.
The last thing today was spraying the surfacer on the inner parts, which are supposed to be in colour of varnished plywood. But that will be a task for another day.

Thanks for looking!

You may be aware that Legato also has a model of the very cute little Beneš-Mráz Be-60 Bestiola.

They are not easy to find, and they are certainly not cheap, but...

With your incredible talent, it could turn into yet another jewel.

Wink-wink, nudge-nudge 😉

Thank you Moa, you are very kind.
You are right, the Be-60 Bestiola is very cute airplane and the Legato made it in the past, but I can't find it anywhere on the internet. But I will scanning from time to time, maybe it will appear incidentally.
:D And I must let you down, my "wife" is not much interested in sports nor photography...

Nice work :)

Thanks RidgeRunner :)

Yesterday I only managed to pait the cockpit with ground colour and imitate the plywood with an oil paint on a brush. Today I hope the cockpit will go through wash and varnish.
Stay tuned for photos!

And there are photos for today! Despite the undercariage trouble, I really enjoyed it. I like fast builds. On the other hand I have to admit that the result is not geometrically perfect, but it's a common problem with the resin kits.
So let's see what do we have here:

The airscrew needs still more attention though...

The goal for tomorrow is final surfacer! Wish me luck :D

Progress for today is completed. The goal was exceeded with the colour, so I am satisfied. There are few oversprays, so that will be repaired next time. I hope it will be finished in record time :)

Masking: (I was inspired with Moa's auxiliary masks so I asked my friend Pavel to make me some circles - Thanks!)

Thanks a lot!

Here we go, Super Clear then decals (they are perfect, Tally-Ho! knew how to make decals well...) and then again Super Clear. Today I put wash into main lines and now it will cure until the semi gloss clear and the black walkways + wheels. I will hopefully finish on Sunday (I'll be out few days).
So enjoy please :)
