Graham T
I'm building the Airfix F8 Korean War kit but as an RAF bird. The kit provides a choice of ailerons - with the single (early production) or twin (later production) trim tabs. I'm going to build either WL135 (245 sqdn 1955) or WA852 (257 sqdn 1953). Both have the small bore intakes but anyone any idea of which ailerons to use? Edited June 13, 2020 by Graham T
bentwaters81tfw
Ask Julien, he's restoring one. http://www.bcwm.org.uk/museum-aircraft/#jp-carousel-3686
stever219
@Graham T as a late-build Mk. 8 WL135 had the deep-breather (large bore) intakes and ailerons with two tabs. WA852 on the other hand came from almost the other end of the Mk. 8 production run so would have had small-bore intakes, single-tab ailerons and the earlier “hard back” canopy as opposed to ‘135’s bubble canopy. Funnily enough both of these schemes are on Airfix Meteors currently sitting in my “nearly completed” cabinet waiting for me to get my finger out and apply all those stencils......... As I've already fitted the small bore intakes, 852 it is!

Not a bad choice, I think 257 Squadron seemed to slip somewhat into obscurity after World War II so a bit of love there won’t go amiss.
