There is a great thread in this forum about Academy Viper:

Some resin part updates will be used to improve this kit.

To test vinyl mask design I have used a recovered Hasegawa F-16C:

Except few areas which need little correction in general the vinyl mask looks really good.

Next step is to start Academy kit build...

Beautiful work! How did you account for the curved surfaces when designing the masks?

Thanks for sharing,

Arnaud

Thanks Arnaud,

For curved surfaces I combine all three view drawings and guesstimate most realistic pattern. When the first model is ready I cut the vinyl masks. I place the masks and if needed stretch them (vinyl film tolerates such plastic deformation)  in some extends to bring them correct position. Using permanent marker I make all corrections needed. After than I remove all corrected masks and scan them. Using scanned images I make changes in vector artwork and prepare final masks in my build.

You can see many examples in my other threads in this forum.

Cockpit parts were painted and placed. Also MLG wheel bay was replaced with resin one.

The fuselage halves then glued together:

Next step is to add other resin replacements and make the aircraft ready for primer.

Really impressive work!

Just one question if I may, why do you put so much effort into the old Academy kit when you obviosly have acces to much better stuff!

Sorry, but I'like to know ;)

Because I have many boxes of Academy kit and the mold is almost same as Hasegawa kit. Therefore I can use Hasegawa upgrade sets to improve Academy ones. I have made molds of my own upgrade sets from Kinetic parts especially for pylons, intake, dorsal etc.

There is no riveting detail on Academy kit but it is still fine in shape and good enough for such batch builds. 🙂

As I am using Model Master enamel paints in this build I have mixed flat white and flat full gray in 9:1 ratio to get my "Arctic White". Most probably it is not a perfect match but to me good enough for this build.

Before painting the nose and wing tip launchers as well as aft body side walls (where elevons are placed) were masked. The aircraft lower surface elements and vertical fin port side was painted with mixed paint.

Hi Serkan, you do some amazing pre work to get your models right.

Thanks Robert,

I like building the kit combining digital and physical means. This time the digital camo pattern was really challenging. I have spent considerable amount of time to create paint masks.

But I am sure that it will worth to all these efforts🙂

The upper surfaces as well as vertical fin (after applying the masks on port side for Arctic white areas) was painted to Model  Master 2131 "Flanker Medium Blue".

Next step is to mask entire aircraft and apply final color MM2031 "Agressor Blue".
