Dear fellow Britmodellers,

here's my latest, the 1/72 Airfix B-17G (new tool) built from the box with the addition of photo-etch-seatbelts from my spares box.

"Mah Ideel" operated with 401st Bomb Squadron, 91st Bomb Group, out of Bassingbourn/Cambridgeshire in fall of 1944.

The model was painted with Alclad II lacquers and Gunze/Mr.Hobby acrylics.

All photographs by Wolfgang Rabel.

Mike, you built the same kit a few months ago, so you are familiar with the quality and detail provided in the new Airfix B-17!

In my opinion this is the best B-17 model in this scale on the market.

I found it relatively easy to assemble . Some time went into the surface preparation though as NMF finishes are unforgiving when it comes to dust, hair or scratches.

Thank you very much for your feedback!

Very, very nice. I have this in the stash and keep looking at it - seeing results like this means I may bump it up the pile...

Nice to see a natural metal bomb bay too, rather than the long-standing tradition of covering all the insides of a Fortress in Interior Green. Lovely job!

Another stunning build with great photography, Roman.  The NMF and exhaust stains are excellent.  Are the main tires from the kit or aftermarket?  I noticed that they are flattened on the bottom.

Cheers,

Mark

Thanks for feedback, Mark!

Tires are from the box and come with flattened bottom.

Nicely done, Roman!  Your meticulous work really shows the gorgeous lines of this aircraft.  It must've taken half a kilometer of Tamiya tape to do all the masking on this project!

Lovely that! These 8th AF types are fascinating, I need to get some if I can find space.

Are there any difficulties with this kit?

Your Lordship,

I can assure you there are no pitfalls in this kit!

It may be a bit over-engineered in places (such as the gear bays), resulting in a high parts count.

Apart from that, the build was plain sailing.
