Wez
YouTube offered this video as something I might be interested in about the rebirth of French aviation, ironically with the opening shots featuring the DeHavilland Vampire, there's quite a big section on the Vampire in the vid too. There's lots of weird and wonderful types as well as more familiar things like the Flamant, Noratlas, Ouragan, Stampe SV.4 and I think a SIPA S.10 as well as the aforementioned Vampires and a display sequence featuring F-80's, interesting stuff! 1
Graham T
Enjoyed that, some pretty weird & wonderful designs. My French isn't up to scratch I'm afraid so couldn't understand a great deal but that Bretagne(?) transporter was an attractive design. Also, near the beginning was something that LOOKED like an He-177 (in fact, I'm almost certain that it was a development of the 177 designed to improve upon the troublesome coupled pairs of engines on that design)) with four separate engine nacelles and a "piggy-back" mounted jet fighter that LOOKED similar to a Supermarine Swift. What was that? Edited June 6, 2020 by Graham T

What was that? Don't know Graham but it was very definitely based on the He-177!
72modeler
Wez- neat film footage! Thanks for posting it. Pretty clever how that SO.30C transport stowed the ramps under the cargo bay floor, and those old jeeps have to have had serious fwd to get up that steep ramp so quickly! The Flamant always reminded me as the love child of a Bloch 174 and a DH Dove! Mike Edited June 8, 2020 by 72modeler added text

What was that? That is a He 274, a development of the He 177, intended as a high-altitude bomber. Two prototypes were to be built in France but where not finished when the Germans had to retreat. They tried to blow them up but both machines only suffered minor damage and the French decided to complete them. They served into the 50s as "mother ships" for various french prototype aircraft with rocket of ramjet propulsion. The "Swiftlike" machine in the video is a SNCASO SO.M1, a scaled down glider testing aerodynamics for the intended SO.4000 bomber.
