Downgrade parts for cars? Especially minis

Recommended Posts

There seems to be a lot of upgrade parts available for 1/24th cars but not much in the way of downgrade parts!

My interest in cars lies in the more mundane cars that would have been seen on British roads in the 60s/70s era - so mainly British and some European or Japanese vehicles but, as you would expect, most kits are of the more exotic versions.

For instance I have a pile of 1/24th mini kits that I am working through but they are nearly all mini-coopers and I want to make normal minis - there are some extra grills in the Fujimi "old mini" (Mayfair 1.3i & 25th Anniversary mini) that can be adapted to late 60s and 70s minis but nothing that I've found will do the original early 60s Mk1 Austin 7 or Morris mini minor, just the Cooper versions - does anybody know of a maker (or source kit) for these? Also wheels that aren't minilites or similar - the Tamiya and Revell coopers have steel wheels with hupcaps which aren't bad (need the holes filling in) but I need more than I've got (and can't keep buying more kits) and would ideally like some with the 60s full width hubcap as well to do a version of Jeanie's Austin mini Super from Randall & Hopkirk (Deceased)!

In a similar vein standard 60s/70s Ford steel wheels with hubcap (and other parts) for the Mk1 & Mk2 Escorts kits - once the big arches are removed!

Did find some standard looking resin wheels for the Heller Renault 8 so may well be stuff out there.
Years ago I did manufacture a range of resin mundane British cars and wheels etc in 1/32nd scale (mostly for use as Scalextric bodies) but I don't have the access to the facilities now that I had then and have moved to 1/24th anyway!

Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction

cheers

Chris

Hi,I know that South East Finecast sell spares from their kits and they do make a 1/24 Mini. Not sure if it's exactly what you are after, just an idea. Chris.

Moto-Bitz have just started doing a set of 10 inch steel wheels with hubcaps for 1/24 Minis, including resin tyres.

Hi Kitkent & Anteater,

Thanks for the suggestions - the Moto-Bitz resin wheels look ideal for what I want so I am going to try and order a couple of sets of those and twin rear doors for the Transit. When funds permit I wouldn't mind one of their mini vans or estate kits too!

Chris
