history of the ejection seat

Stumbled upon this today, and I think the footage will be of interest to WW2 and postwar modelers and enthusiasts; I can only imagine how difficult it must have been for WW2 pilots to bail out successfully- first, to get clear of  a spinning or burning aircraft; then to not strike the fin or stabilizers; then  to have the 'chute deploy correctly with enough altitude to open fully. Very interesting  'Lynch' really Bernard Lynch went on to do 30 ejections. I wonder how his back stood up to that? He wasn't even a pilot! Brave man indeed.

A friend of mine who ejected from a Harrier reckoned he's an inch shorter now but then again he loves a good flying tale.
