I don’t know if this has been asked before but are the drop tanks on the Royal Navy skyraiders the same kind as on the ww2 corsair? I have the sword and aero club conversion kit. Any help would be much appreciated :)

Everything you wanted to know but were afraid to ask about Aero external tanks, courtesy of the awesome Tailhook Topics blog by @Tailspin Turtle; the man is a master of all things related to modeling USN aircraft and a frequent poster here on BM! (Tommy- either you or Jim Sullivan need to grace us with another F4U reference work, please, please, please!)

Thanks for the recognition and the suggestion for an F4U reference book but with respect to the latter, I’m limiting myself to filling around the edges of the many existing (and some excellent) F4U reference works when I come across an opportunity to inform (e.g. http://tailspintopics.blogspot.com/2020/04/f4u-5-redux.html). Moreover, I’m also planning to retire from writing reference works after the F7U-3 monograph that’s in work for Steve Ginter.

Sorry to hear that, but you've certainly earned the time off. I will eagerly await the F7U reference! Thanks for all you've given to modelers all over the world.

  • 2 years later...

Please excuse the late and slightly irrelevant question folks but what were the aero series tanks made from?

I am building an A1J and am looking to represent the odd bit of light wear.

I am guessing aluminium, not phenolic asbestos Ono?

Thanks in hope
