extremely bad news for my part. I've been wanting one for ages, but it is in resin and absolutely no use to me as I don't use resin

Know the feeling. This is definitely one of those "delighted by the announcement only to lose interest when you find out it's resin" moments! 😕

That's what I felt when I saw their Skystreak announcement a few months ago, as I am not so great with resin too. But I couldn't resist when I saw the photos, ordered one, received it a few weeks ago and I can tell you that it's not the resin kit you know! Beautifully designed with gorgeous casting, exquisite 3D printed details and a great package presentation. I've tried a few dry-fits of the nose and it fits perfectly and for some parts you would not tell they are resin if cast in grey. So, I think I will not miss this not-sure-if-will-ever-come-again kit of that Viggen, one of my top aircraft, even in resin.

This is very good news for me as I've seen they're producing the X-3 kit and that really appeals to me. Need to find a kit build review of the Skystreak and see what it involves. I know a lot of folks are put off by resin but it appears that's the medium we're going to have to deal with if we want that "just got to have it" kit that we're not likely to find in styrene in the scale we usually build in.  F-86H in 1/48 scale comes to mind.

Completely agree, SAT69. Below are two reviews of their Skystreak, one from France and the other from Canada. Not seen a build review yet but I am tempted for a WIP, though I am not a very good builder :)

I did an internet search and couldn't find a build review. I've never built a resin kit but it makes sense to me to find a simple one and build it to discover what's entailed. I can't learn by sitting back and just wondering. Got nothing to lose and new skills and experiences to be gained, so why not?

Good idea... Ok for a simple one but I recommend it should be a good one with a good fit as there are some cheap ones with resin castings no better than a culture-grown mushroom. Ask me how I know :)

Exactly. Same as trying your first vac and it’s mince so you are put off for life. Try and get a recommendation for a good quality small resin model and go from there

Recommendation for a good quality resin kit for a beginner?

What budget and scale?  If you go to Hannants website or another retailer and use the search engine for resin models you will get the whole spectrum. Maybe choose a couple you fancy and ask on here if anyone has experience of them.

Hannants have a range of kits from Omega. No idea as to quality though.

I have a couple of 1/32 Silver Wings models pricey but very nice. No experience of 1/72 resin other than in conversions such as aftermarket cockpits, wheel wells etc for the Airfix Valiant

Straying off topic. I suggest you start a new thread and ask the BM massif for collective advice

Soooooo coooooooooolll. Resin but still cool...

I always wanted a Viggen in 1/32. How great it would be to have two, if I can afford both, as splinter scheme and NMF are both absolutely beautiful. I see the RAT is open, which is great to see finally someone did it, and the airbrakes seem to be positionable as well. I cannot tell from the pictures if the speedbrakes under the fuselage and behind the cannon are positionable too, but that would look great too. I count four actuators under the wing, which is correct for this JA version as the AJ has three, an issue some recent kits seem to have missed. I'm impatient and hope to see this magnificent aircraft gets all the detail treatment and we have a wonderful Viggen kit. And not to mention that it would be great to see the AJ and SF versions released too.

OMG!!!!!  :yikes:

A 1/32nd Viggen and it's resin!!  I've just died and gone to resin heaven!

I now know what is top of my model list. I wonder how the quality will be compared to to the old Fisher Model & Pattern beasts??

I had heard rumours about this company and some of their other coming releases.

I just had a look at their site!!! This is resin porn turned up to 11!!!

Theres even talk of a 1/18th A-4 Skyhawk and a 1/48th B-47 Stratojet! No mention on the site yet about the Viggen.

Their 1/32nd Skystreak went on sale for $160 USD and for the lucky pre-ordered ones, $128 USD, that's not too bad at all when considering what you're getting. If the Viggen is around $250 USD it'll be a bargain!

Once you've tried resin you'll never look back! I am building a plastic kit at the moment and struggling to find interest. Resin manufacturers such as Small Stuff, Lukgraph, HPH, Aviattic and SBS (aircraft), MFH, BBR and Le Mans Miniatures (cars) and many others already exceed plastic kits in terms of quality. Many more are as good at least. Not sure where people's experience of 'bad' resin kits come from because probably two or three of the 100+ I've built over the last thirty years have been anything but excellent in quality.

And by the way the Jetmads Skystreak kit looks amazing. I may have to get one just to marvel at it.

Problem with resin isn't just learning to make the kit from this material, but also dealing with the hazards.

Living in quite a small house with my family means I have two sq metres of modelling room in the converted attic, and allowing the dust up there is a no no really, it's something I'm looking into dealing with though as there quite clearly some lovely resin kits out there now.
