MarkSH
Lancaster B.Mk.III LM739 'GROGS the SHOT' No. 100 Squadron R.A.F. Elsham Wold April 1945 Here is my entry to the Avro Lancaster STGB, built from the Revell kit with some PE for the interior along with a couple of bits of scratching, replacement resin wheels and gun barrels. I amended the radiator intakes slightly and the same with the wing dihedral. Overall not a bad kit at all but with some contentious shapes here and there; I chose to replace the mid upper turret and fairing with parts from the Airfix 'Dambuster' kit. Weathered with oil paints and Tamiya powders. The build thread is here: And some proper sunshine shots: Thanks for looking and as always comments more than welcome. Cheers, Mark.

keith in the uk
Great , I built the same plane in 1.48th scale a few years ago , Those Yellow areas must have stood out like a sore thumb at night . 😬
woody37
That's a lovely build Mark, the base is great too. Captures the worn look that these bombers got quite quickly
Aces High
Oooh this is great and the diorama is absolutely cracking! Did the wagons with bombs come with the kit?
Vinnie
That's a cracking build, Mark. Sad to say I made such a bad job of mine I binned it, so much respect to you for such a fine model.
SAT69
Awesome diorama. My grand-daughter looking over my shoulder said, "Wow, it looks real!" Great tribute from the younger generation.
MarkSH
Thanks for the comments chaps and glad it "looks real" high praise indeed! The Yellow was applied for a short time only, apparently so 'Grogs' could act as a 'Leader' plane for a daylight raid. The raid in question was on Hitler's retreat near Berchtesgaden. Reading the various reports the bomb load (Airfix BTW from the Bomber Re-supply kit) was 1x4000lb + 4x1000lb + 1x500lb if possible which is what I've tried to suggest. Thanks, Mark. jackroadkill
That's fantastic. As mentioned above by @SAT69 you could be forgiven for thinking you were looking at the real thing.
Jonners
Very nice model, Mark, and the base looks great too. When I finally get round to building my Revell Lancaster I'll be very happy if it looks as good as this. It's Elsham Wold, by the way; I fly over it regularly and will drive across the middle of it (or what's left of it...) tomorrow! Jon

The Spadgent
That sir is a rather nice lancaster. I know the pain that goes into a build like this and indeed the wonderful pleasure from watching her come together. You can be really proud of this one. 👏 Johnny

Jonners
Very nice, Mark, and I also like the base which is simple but very effective. I routinely fly over and drive across what was RAF Elsham Wolds, and I often try to imagine what it would have been like as a wartime airfield. If you haven't already read it, I very strongly recommend 'No Moon Tonight' by Don Charlwood to get a poignant flavour of life at Elsham on a Lancaster squadron. It is one of my favourite books. Coincidentally, I also have an unbuilt Revell Lancaster that I bought for my son some years ago; he too decided that modelling wasn't for him, so I'll also be building it myself one day. kapam
A mighty fine Lanc and diorama to go with it! Had I been part of the crew, I would have been glad to lose the yellow fins and wingtips.
