Hello everybody...Having just finished my Entry for the North American Portion of the group build, here is my entry for the Yanks abroad and Stranger in town portions. This boxing contains two actual kits. I will build one from 112 Sqn Italy in 1943 the other from 2 Sqn. SAAF in 1942.

And though it looks like I'm duplicating photos I'm not there are actually two separate sprues.

Now that the interior work is mostly done I can start to individualize these so you can tell the difference. Please feel free to ask questions, post comments, and or add thoughts.

It's good to see another Yank Abroad, Dennis.  I still can't believe it didn't make the vote last year!

Cheers

Thanks Cliff... I agree hopefully it will get through on a second chance vote in this upcoming bunfight.

Evening everyone... Pulled an all nighter but was too tired to post these at 3:00 am. I was able to build up and add the wings. That and drill the holes for the Horizontal stabs on both planes.

I know they look the same they are different. One has a black grip ⬇️on the control column the other brown. ⬆️

COO19nz.jpgThats how I tell the difference between them.

Brown ⬆️ will be 112 Sq. and Black ⬇️ will be 2 Sq.

Evening everybody... Well these are mostly set now. Just need to tackle some gaps with the stabs before they can go to paint. Considering I had to pin the stabs on. THlXJUx.jpg
Im not surprised there are gaps & misalignment, this my dislike for butt joints. However we are very close as you can see. JGaTEQc.jpg
First up is the 112 squadron bird. I used the open flap option on this one to help differentiate it from the other.

Followed by the 2 Sqadron plane. dQ371Kk.jpg

This one has closed cowl flaps, to help distinguish it from the other.

Evening everyone... well Ive been able to get a satisfactory answer on something. Turns out Sword are incorrect on there profile. GA*G FR295 never served in Italy. I will paraphrase the source.
The aircraft took off at 15:45 for an escort mission on March 10th 1943, Fl/Officer Bruce at the controls. In the course of the ensuing dogfight the plane never returned” interesting to note was that 112 Squadron never assigned the code “G” code again.

So this gets the desert scheme, along with the 2 Squadron plane. First up is 112 Sq. 4Pbu3dD.jpg

I just now saw this... been away from the forum for a while... I have this same kit so I was happy to read through this and see what you thought.  I plan to make one of them the South African plane and the other I got some after market decals to make it a Russian fighter.

Nice work so far.  I really like the metal and zinc chromate chipping technique.  Interesting stuff.

My apologies everyone... Not getting much time at the bench what with a new puppy and all. I was able to get the serials on the 112 Sq. KittyHawk and a second coat of microsol on the sharksmouth which is flaking apart.

Not really impressed with techmods approach or for that matter anyone else's to Sharksmouth’s ? Why can't the do these things in multiple sections ? Or better yet supply a mask for painting them. Two piece decals in this case that are too stiff and don't conform well will now require many touchups just to get a mediocre finish.

These are coming along nicely Dennis.  I like your 'chipped paint' weathering, will be nice when it all comes together in the final varnish. I don't like Techmod decals period, very flimsy and split easily.

:goodjob:

Wonderful work Dennis

I have to say I hate this multiple layering of decals, if I want to fit roundals I don't want to be doing target practice trying to score a bullseye with the middle colour !

Apologies rant over 😉

Your hawks look the business and an aircraft I have overlooked for far too long !

Cheers Pat

The shark's mouth looks pretty good after the touchups.  I really like the South African scheme -- can't wait to do mine (of course I can't wait to do 50 other kits too ;)).

What did you use for your azure blue?  I've had to mix my own, which has come out well in the past, but is tedious.  Are you using Mr. Color for the Middle stone and Dark Earth?
