Corsairfoxfouruncle
Hello everybody...Having just finished my Entry for the North American Portion of the group build, here is my entry for the Yanks abroad and Stranger in town portions. This boxing contains two actual kits. I will build one from 112 Sqn Italy in 1943 the other from 2 Sqn. SAAF in 1942. I will post the Sprue Shots tomorrow when I can fig this one out of the stash. Please feel free to ask questions, post comments, and or add thoughts. Dennis

Corsairfoxfouruncle
Morning everyone... I spent several hours working on a start to my next five builds this morning. And though it looks like I'm duplicating photos I'm not there are actually two separate sprues. Now that the interior work is mostly done I can start to individualize these so you can tell the difference. Please feel free to ask questions, post comments, and or add thoughts. Corsairfoxfouruncle
Evening everyone... Pulled an all nighter but was too tired to post these at 3:00 am. I was able to build up and add the wings. That and drill the holes for the Horizontal stabs on both planes. I know they look the same they are different. One has a black grip ⬇️on the control column the other brown. ⬆️ Thats how I tell the difference between them. Brown ⬆️ will be 112 Sq. and Black ⬇️ will be 2 Sq. Please feel free to ask questions, post comments, and or add thoughts. Dennis
Corsairfoxfouruncle
Evening everybody... Well these are mostly set now. Just need to tackle some gaps with the stabs before they can go to paint. Considering I had to pin the stabs on. Im not surprised there are gaps & misalignment, this my dislike for butt joints. However we are very close as you can see. First up is the 112 squadron bird. I used the open flap option on this one to help differentiate it from the other. Followed by the 2 Sqadron plane. This one has closed cowl flaps, to help distinguish it from the other. Corsairfoxfouruncle
Morning everyone... These are now ready for paint, I'm trying to research the scheme for the 112 Squadron plane. Something in my memory says it may not be correct, i need to seek out some answers.
Corsairfoxfouruncle
Good morning everybody... I was able to get the aluminum paint on these tonight. First up is the 112 bird. Next up is the 2 Squadron plane. Both builds next to each other. And a quick look at all my current builds. Please feel free to ask questions, post comments, and or add thoughts ? Corsairfoxfouruncle
Evening everyone... Zinc Chromate Yellow is done, next up is the hairspray. 112 Squadron. Then we have the 2 Squadron SAAF. Corsairfoxfouruncle
Evening everyone... well Ive been able to get a satisfactory answer on something. Turns out Sword are incorrect on there profile. GA*G FR295 never served in Italy. I will paraphrase the source. “The aircraft took off at 15:45 for an escort mission on March 10th 1943, Fl/Officer Bruce at the controls. In the course of the ensuing dogfight the plane never returned” interesting to note was that 112 Squadron never assigned the code “G” code again.” So this gets the desert scheme, along with the 2 Squadron plane. First up is 112 Sq. And the 2 Sq. aircraft. Please feel free to ask questions, post comments, and or add thoughts. Corsairfoxfouruncle
Morning everyone... Just finished these tonight there are still pretty rough and will get some touch-ups before I move on to decals. 112 Sq. First. Then the 2 Sq. bird. Corsairfoxfouruncle
Evening everyone... All the final touch-ups are complete. These have been given clear coat and will get decals over the next few days. Dennis
opus999
I just now saw this... been away from the forum for a while... I have this same kit so I was happy to read through this and see what you thought. I plan to make one of them the South African plane and the other I got some after market decals to make it a Russian fighter. Nice work so far. I really like the metal and zinc chromate chipping technique. Interesting stuff.
Corsairfoxfouruncle
Still need to do a few more decals and touchups on the sharks mouth. Its a bit of a slog but I'm getting there slowly but surely. Dennis
Corsairfoxfouruncle
My apologies everyone... Not getting much time at the bench what with a new puppy and all. I was able to get the serials on the 112 Sq. KittyHawk and a second coat of microsol on the sharksmouth which is flaking apart. Not really impressed with techmods approach or for that matter anyone else's to Sharksmouth’s ? Why can't the do these things in multiple sections ? Or better yet supply a mask for painting them. Two piece decals in this case that are too stiff and don't conform well will now require many touchups just to get a mediocre finish. DaveyGair
These are coming along nicely Dennis. I like your 'chipped paint' weathering, will be nice when it all comes together in the final varnish. I don't like Techmod decals period, very flimsy and split easily. Davey.
Corsairfoxfouruncle
Hello everyone... I built up the landing gear but they're still drying as I write this. I will mount them tonight or Tomorrow. I also touched up the sharksmouth tonight. Please feel free to ask question, post comments, and or add thoughts. JOCKNEY
Wonderful work Dennis I have to say I hate this multiple layering of decals, if I want to fit roundals I don't want to be doing target practice trying to score a bullseye with the middle colour ! Apologies rant over 😉 Your hawks look the business and an aircraft I have overlooked for far too long ! Cheers Pat
Corsairfoxfouruncle
Good evening everybody... slowly but surely we get there. I have now got the props and gear on these. There still hardening but should be good tomorrow. Next up weathering and satin coat, then canopies. Please feel free to ask questions, post comments, and or add thoughts. opus999
The shark's mouth looks pretty good after the touchups. I really like the South African scheme -- can't wait to do mine (of course I can't wait to do 50 other kits too ). What did you use for your azure blue? I've had to mix my own, which has come out well in the past, but is tedious. Are you using Mr. Color for the Middle stone and Dark Earth?
