Tamiya 1/48 Birdcage Corsair

Recommended Posts

Hi
I would like to join with this F4U-1 (or -2) "Birdcage" Corsair
Tamiya 1/48th scale

I have not yet chosen the subject: I have already built the white 20 of the Marines VMF-213 in 1/72 scale but it remains my favorite for early 2 tone camo and the presence of the eagle on the engine cowl
Second of the list is one of the two night fighter of the Marines VMF(N)-532 (black 205 or 212) , last but don't least , the 3 (actually 4) tone camo 17-F-13 of the Navy VF-17

PS the same model had been presented for the Pacific at war GB but was not suitable for the regulation for which I changed the subject

You've a few good scheme options to choose from for this project and can clearly build a great Corsair going by previous form

Sadly the canopy of that Italeri kit looks somewhat squashed and that's giving me second thoughts about my own project choice.

Hi @Col.if your project is a French Aeronaval Corsair, you know that the starting model of mine was an F4U-4B, then I was not aware of the differences on the part of the engine / cowling but I believe that the canopy is the same

Perhaps I need to source a replacement canopy for my Italeri kit but not looked at it with this in mind yet.

Hi
between Saturday and Tuesday I had 4 days at home to model, yesterday in fact it was our National Republic Day
So I was able to work a lot on both the Corsair and the F-16 that I am doing for A Kit You Built As A Kid GB
I painted and built the cockpit

Hi!

Profitable weekend with both models. in this case I made the engine, painted propeller and wheels (Ultracast) and tested the fit of the fuselage

I also tried the salmon red recipe read on "how to build Tamiya's 1/32 F4U-1 Corsair"

Hi Pierpaolo,

Looking good - I particularly like your salmon mix.  One note before you glaze over the rear-view tunnels: you might want to paint that area beneath the glass with camouflage paint rather than Dull Dark Green.  That section was considered part of the exterior and painted accordingly.

Cheers,

Dana

I painted those areas together with the cockpit while I had the airbrush loaded with DDG. Thank you very much @Dana Bell for the comment and the advice because I could forget to check. I have both of your Aircraft Pictorials about Corsair and now your comment so I can't afford to be wrong!

However I also checked the birdcage in 1/72 (showed in the first post) and I did it right

Hi everyone.
I mounted the wings with machine guns made with small pieces of tube and the lights made with pieces of transparent sprue colored green and red.
I decided to rivet the model and started from the top of the wings and the central body
