Thanks guys.

This eve I’ve been working on the white coat on the underside.

I built it up for a long time in light mottled layers with super thinned paint. I think it looks ok in the flesh, not sure about it in the photos though.

boot camp achieved Glynn thanks! 😀

A lot has happened since my last update.

The entire airframe has been painted.

It was almost disaster.

I was just about to paint it all in my cans of tamiyas suggested paints, when checking I realised they where not acrylic but lacquer and therefore would render the chipping impossible.

So I mixed my own hues and painted the aircraft… note this is built up with very thinned paint and mottled for a trashy look.

This turned out way too colourful for my liking at scale.

So I remixed colours and produced a greyer look.

Note that as I painted it above I didn’t have the flaps in position so the demarcation between the heavier blue and mid blue was in the wrong place; it should start closer to where the flap trailing edge ends.

Now it is fixed after completely remixing and matching the new hue and fixing!

Here it is chipped too. Im really happy how this came out with different hues of YZC and silver. I show a whole bunch of them below and this is where I’m now up to.

Note where the trailing edge of the flap would be and the demarcation line begins

Here’s where I masked the walkways… (I love post-it ® notes) 😀

Nose chipped…

Auxiliary belly tank chipped… this is a little too bombastic compared to the rest but it's done now.

Next up - airbrushing the stars and bars with masks! Gulp.

Paul,

Excellent result. What a great outcome with the chipping. My favorite though is really the variation you achieved in the blues. Congratulations.

Thanks so much fellas I really appreciate it.

I fear i have gone a little too far with it looking at refs but that’s how it is. Looking forward to moving on to the next stage when i return home from abroad.

I’ve been working on the aircraft markings since the last update.
I tried airbrushing them for the first time.

After doing them i wasnt completely happy and then weathering them i was even more unhappy it was way too much compared to references, so i’ve decaled over them and will lightly sand and more subtly weather them back next stage

Thanks for the good words fellas. 🙏

I finished doing all the decalling tonight with the stencils and all

next job is to mask them and ‘fade’ them back and just ‘damage’ the wing star bar

Let’s see how it goes. It’s all a learning process.

The over-wing star and bar overlaps with all the removable panels for reloading the ammunition doesn’t it? I guess that would bring on some wear and tear.

Adrian

Yes that’s the decal that needs the most wear.

It is written that the RNZAF used to touch up the national insignia far more often than the rest of the airframe. This supports the idea of different amounts of weathering. I've not read that the US did the same but it would be a reasonable assumption.
