A Big Tamiya ##finished##

Hi everyone,

I’ve been excited awaiting the start of this particular group build as I’m christening it with the grandest kit i’ve tried to date
I’m stoked about it BUT I’m terrified of screwing it up it was so expensive 😳
It’s Tamiya’s F4U-1A corsair and the biggest scale build i’ve yet attempted.

The kit comes in a huge box jam packed full of goodies to which i’ve added a few bits of my own.

The instructions come in an equally substantial booklet and this is partnered with a tamiya corsair reference book.

I have my own reference book also.

I have made a start on this but have halted progress and packed it away so it stays well within the 25% complete rule. I spoke to craig @modelling minionand he’s happy with this thankfully (I’m on instruction window 7 of a mighty impressive 125 no less) but next weekend I can open the box again! 🤗 (but gotta finish my spitfire gb first)

Basically I’m up to here in the cockpit...

Schemewise I’m unsure at present.
I’m not sure I can complete this in time within the duration of the gb (I have no idea how long these big kits take) but lets see

Thanks for reading this far!

That's a kit and a half, should be fun to watch, the wear and tear in the cockpit is already making it look like a stand out build Paul.

I have the exact same reservations! Although nothing ventured, nothing gained, looking forward to more progress!

Try the big airfix mossie, I've had it since it first came out and started it a month or so ago its going to be a bit real estate to paint, I may chicken out and paint it in seac silver!

Well a mozzie in silver always looks awesome 😎

Can't see that happening at all.

Cheers craig 👍

gosh that does look really nice!!  Plus you've done lovely work on the cockpit!

These big Tamiya models look so nice I'm so tempted...... either their P-51D/K or Spitfire Mk.VIII.....RAAF versions of course. Maybe Santa will be nice to me this year!

A very nice start and I'm with the others I think you'll be fine.

Great booby trap there get to stage 125 and then find you've got to work past everything since stage 12. Mind you the pilot figure is about as useful as the one in the 48th kit but yours seems to be doing something rude, my guy looks like he's waiting for the Headmaster.

Thanks chaps 👍🙏

Here a little progress on the corsair.
Threading photoetch onto seatbelts has taken an eternity.
But its all starting to come together.
One had to decide at this point whether have closed or open canopy by inserting one piece or another behind the canopy. So ive gone for closed despite all the work inside as it looks ace closed (and it hides my mistakes 🙂

Paul that is truly excellent work, the cockpit looks fantastic as does the interior detail for the rear fuselage.

I can't see any problems that I would want to hide and would happily be pointing people in the direction of the cockpit not covering it up!

Thanks craig thats really kind.

Cant go back now the though the part is installed determining it has to be closed.

Ps notice how many ejector pins there are on the interior? Didnt expect that from tamiya
