Dstream
Hi all, I went on with the work on the fuselage and I re-installed the rudder which I removed earlier to modify it. Only the trim tab is now missing. Here a close-up of the tail area with the rudder and the new scratch build ventral fin which includes the tail wheel fairing. On the forward area, I put on the 'cheecks' with the gun muzzle grooves and the muzzles that were replaced by 0.8 mm aluminium tubing. The frontal characteristic air intake had to be faired inside and reshaped to get a properly thin lip thickness. Slowly going on, that is all for now, Best regards, Dan.
Dstream
Hi, after a very long hiatus, when I was distracted by other models, I am back to this Gina. I finished the front part of the plane, filling gaps, scribing panel lines and adding some rivet lines. Two air scoops were glued to the bottom side of the fuselage: In the the cockpit area, I glued the resin coaming on top of the IP: On the two weapon lids on the sides of the fuselage, I tried to add stripes of thick primer to render the stressed skin undulations visible on these panels, Let's see how this will work once painted. That's all for now, Dan
coneheadff
Great to see you back on the Gina 👍 Hope Kinetic will finally release theirs. The old Heller/Italieri kit needs a ton of work. Alex

bar side
Those gun doors are not a great fit. Must have seemed a good idea when the kit was first launched but haven’t stood the test of time. Seem to remember the undercarriage wasn’t up to much either. Keep up the good work!

Indeed, the LG are inaccurate (i.e. wrong) and do not reproduce faithfully the stance of the plane. I will have to rework that, but I still do not know how. Dstream
Few small progress on my G.91. Also the aft fuselage is almost completed with rescribed and riveted lines. Some more details also on the front part. After that, also the wings were smoothed, rescribed and riveted. In addition, the boundary layer fence was replaced by a scratch build ones which are thinner and with a better shape: The wing pilons were added after having been suitably modified: The parts are here dry tested before gluing. That's all for now, cheers, Dan

Dstream
Hi, this week end I could clock some hours at the bench, hence I have few more pictures of my build to post. I started to assemble and glue the missing parts of the airframe, but the fit is everywhere atrocious. This is the nose cone which is in need a good dose of filler: The wings have straight butt joints with the fuselage with no fillet, but the joint is quite uncertain and therefore it was filled with filaments of stretched sprue: The filaments were then melted with liquid glue: Once cured and light sanded, the result looks quite OK: This treatment was applied to all wing root junctions and to the tailplane surfaces as well. Having completed the assembly of the airframe, the nice lines of the aircraft finally emerged: That's all for now, to the next time, Dan

bar side
She is looking good. How did you find the gun pack door fit? I found it sunk inside a bit & needed packing to bring it out level. I only did the one gun though
Dstream
@bar side, thanks for following. The fit of the gun pack doors was very bad also in my experience. If you go up to the top of this page, you find a picture before closing the gun bays. There you will see that I created a rabbet around the bay perimeter upon which the door could sit and stay level with the surrounding surface. After placing the doors, I filled the remaining irregular gap with thick CA and rescribed it anew. Cheers, Dan

Dstream
Hi, a small update of my long build at the end of the week end. I remodeled the shape of the tail cone and refined it with the addition of the lid of the compartment for the drogue parachute. The jet pipe is not glued and it will be added later on after painting. On the other end of the plane, I added a small transparent part to represent the glass of the gunsight. To protect it from knocking it off during handling, I glued in place the front part of the canopy. This is how the cockpit looks now: That's all for now, thanks for following, Dan
Dstream
Hi, some important progresses: finally we have some colors. However, before spraying, few last details had to be finalized. One was the areas of the wheels bay and airbrakes. These have an incorrect shape (this kit is hopeless), but, this time, I gave up with corrections. Life is too short to spend it in fixing all the mistakes of an old kit. Hence, I just framed the apertures with Evergreen stripes just to get a decent definition of them, and I moved on. I sprayed a very light coat of Mr. Surfacer 1500, provisionally mounted the canopy hood and gave a good wet sanding to the surfaces to be painted. All the newly scribed panels and rivet lines looked reasonably good, therefore I commenced the airbrush work. To reproduce the grey bands of the NATO camouflage I chose the Tamiya XF-54 'Dark Sea Grey', to which I added some white. I mottled the basic color with mixes with various percentage of white to try to reproduce the fading seen commonly on many period pictures. This how the scratch built turbulence vanes look after a coat of paint. I find them much nicer than the original molded-in ones. Dark green will follow. That is all for now, cheers, Dan
Dstream
Hi, thanks to the holydays, I went on with the camouflage spraying. I added some post-shading to the grey paint to brake its uniformity. Then, after masking with blu-tack rolls, I added the green bands, followed by some post shading. For the green, I used the Tamiya XF-81. Next, I need to make some corrections and perhaps tone a bit down the post-shading that looks to me a bit too stark. I also started working on the landing gears pieces that will be needed soon. Best regards, Dan

Flyingdutchman
Great work on this ancient kit. The Gina is a nice plane but not easy to build. You were able to touch the colours perfect! Looks very promising. Evert

Cheers, Dan Considering that the usual gloss coat before decals and matt/satin final coat will very likely tone down the effect, I would probably leave it as is. In Italian service at least, the paint on these aircraft weathered quite a lot, the dark green in particular Of course these are personal choices though, weathering is a matter of taste In any case, really great work on this old kit!
