USS Nautilus (SSN-571) — A short photo history

Recommended Posts

I followed your post in the WIP section - fascinating story and a great insight into the history of the USS Nautilus.

Also great job on the old Aurora kit.......

I don't know if you are aware of it, but the Ukrainian enterprise of Mikro-Mir have kitted a 1/350 scale Nautilus....

My build and more photos here :- http://www.flankers-site.co.uk/model_submarines_350_scale.html#Nautilus

I don't know how accurate it is - but it's a nice and (relatively) easy build.

Hi Ken,

I remember your build, very nicely done and I love the display bases you make for your subs.
The MikroMir kit is a gem, I have two of them in my stash. It represents Nautilus in her early days, with the pre-collision sail and the upward-looking sonar on the foredeck. Converting to Nautilus’s later configuration would be relatively easy: modify the sail, fill in the lumber holes, and remove the sonar hump. The tricky part would be filling in the gap in the decking PE where the sonar had been, yet retaining the deck detail.
@ Pappy also did a nice build of the MikroMir kit, he posted an RFI but no WIP, if I recall correctly.
