Chaps.

Ok, here's my attempt!

Time brought to you via Arduino project I'm working on.! Note, time is in GMT as that's what we work to in the radio World! Just bung an hour on if you want BST 😉

And yes, I have deleted my location on purpose. I don't want you lot round here poking fun at me! But you can see my altitude as MASL.

Kits don't come much simpler than these things. I'll just throw the glue and scalpel in the box, shake and open box.

Right, stopped for a rather nice omelette supplied by forever forgiving wife.

Surprisingly, this kit does have a lot more clean-up than expected. Mind you, this is 1973 vintage and the moulds have probably had many a re-run.

Progress so far:

The bit we hate first!

Lower hull:

Upper hull:

Started on the turret:

Right, back to it!

Primer on

Now need to take a break and do a shop.

It'll give time for the Halfords primer to cure, now it's out the oven.

Back in a bit.

That's a very crisp looking model.

I've never really got into Tamiya kits, I have no idea wh. They always impress me when I see others building them.

Most are really "Shake and Bake" kits.

The tanks are real Mojo starters if you've had a bad build.

TBH, I'm cheating here, they  really do build quite quickly.

That's it for tonight.

Pre-shading:

Modulation, but doesn't really show in this light:

y4mJ1wUH3WdE3bB1X1k2j4BMZ46lUE-ONXOga8ub

Gloss coat in decal areas, Grr, tissue stuck to one area, I'll sort that when it's dry:

Wrapped up for the night.

y4mlVbiKUoGtvwrqEZYeQLMt-8wFHJKCU6qDWj9c

Not a bad day.

Had a couple of Bud's this evening to help.

Back killing me.

Off to bed, see you all in the morning.

If I can get out of bed!

Rick.

Garlic? with bread? I hear it's the future. Nice little tank,Rick.

I've always wondered about the name of this thing. I mean, Patton, Bradley, Sherman. Simple stuff. But why Medium Walker Buldog?

Was there a General called Walker that had a dog maybe??

Decals on, back in the oven.

The gloss coat hadn't dried as well as expect over night, therefore it now has a few finger prints on it!

Hope they'll disappear after another gloss coat.

Jeez, over slept. I've been up at about 4:00 every morning since lockdown, and now I go and over sleep!

Rick.

Feeling grotty. Bad head too. I'm sure not spraying related, as took all usual precautions.

Need sleep...

DISASTER!!

On the home run for a 24hr build when I've had a self induced track error!

I left them in the oven for a little too long. They're more like 1/48th scale now!

Grrrr.

I'm hoping to recover them, but during the re-stretching of one I managed to remove the drive sprocket mount. NP, re-glued, but it'll be under too much tension before it fully dries.

Therefore I'm taking a break and should hopefully finish it within the 12/12 session later today.

Right, time to chill, have a brew.

Rick.

Always get these niggling errors when you're working against the clock! Hope you get the rest of the tracks sorted. It's amazing how quickly the rest of it came together, and the proper paint effects thrown in as well!

Yeah, I never work to a time frame when modelling. It always ends up bad!

But, I usually recover it somehow.

This was purely my own fault. I never put rubberband tracks anywhere near the oven, but I was trying to cut corners.

Ejit.

I'm still hoping for a finish before my 12/12hr deadline. I just hope the track survives without it snapping. The one side is okish. Long term I'll try and get a replacement set.

Oh well, here's a quick glance of it.

Need shower and another coffee.

Just about wrapped up now.

Well, had enough!

It's all done, but the one track is U/S. I've dropped a message to Hobby Co to see if they can supply replacements.

Probably not worth it on a £12 kit.

All in all, another great Tamiya kit. It's a 1975 vintage (with 1973 stamped on the hull. That must have been it's previous life as a motorised toy), with a fair bit of cleanup to do.

Given more time you could go to town and make a good kit into an excellent kit. I may even buy another one, as the Japanese decal option looks nice.

I was intending to finish this as a 24hr none stop build, but it's now a 12hr+12Hr.

I'll take a few snaps before my time's up. It's sunning itself at the moment, drying all the paint etc.

The paintwork looks good, What temperature do you bake your models at?

Lowest setting as possible!

Too warm and the tracks shrink........

The oven works well with all paints I've found. It creates a thermal reflow (self levelling), which is more notable on some paints more than others.

It's a technique picked up from Ian Rice of model railway fame.

Don't forget to put a big sign on the oven too!

Looks good to me. Certainly better than a medium.

I'm a medium, the wife's a large. Probably why we don't dress up in the same clothes.

Looking good, I'm planning on doing the same kit for the Vietnam build as I had fond memories of it from building it as a kid (could have done it in that GB but I'm holding back :) )

Very nice.  I've got one of these on the shelf.  Curious to see what you decide to go with for track options (should you do so).  I've looked a little bit, but didn't have much luck finding reasonably price track alternatives.

I've had a quick look on Hannants but, as you say, the options aren't great.

I'll try and see if the importer can help, as the supplied tracks are ok really. Thankfully the Walker ran with fairly tight tracks.

I'll repost when I find the answer.

When I do get them sorted I'll spend a bit more time on the model to weather it more.

I've worked out I spent about 14  hours on the build and about 2 messing about with the rubber bands!

Paints used:

Halfords Primer.

Tamiya Rubber Black (Preshading)

Tamiya Olive Drab (Built up in thin layers)

Tamiya Yellow + Drab (High lights)

Vallejo MA Black (Tyres. Covers quickly)

Tamiya smoke (Wash)

Tamiya X22 Clear (Decal areas. Premixed. Builds up a treat)

W&N Galeria Matt (Thinned with their Flow Improver)

Various others for the detailing, including Tamiya, Vallejo and Citidel.

Hope that's off interest.

Rick.
