Chieftain Mk.10 Antenna sockets-

Dear Sir's,

 

I try to build a Takom Chieftain Mk.10 of the Berlin brigade and have some questions belonging to one of the sockets on the turret roof. In the walkaround galerie of Primeportal you can see a Mk.10, which has this kind of antenna on the right side of the turret:

The set of Takom ignors this part completely, and together with our modeller community we find out that this might be an IR-sensor like you can see here:

So please allow the following questions:

Is it the socket of an IR-antenna ?

Does anyone know if the tanks of the Berlin brigade had this antenna on this side of the turret?

If not, how have they covered the hole in the socket?

In front of the stalk you will see a small projection.  When the stalk was removed, that was the cover for the open socket.  I suspect that Takom’s kit moulds the cover closed, as Tamiya’s does.

They had them, but I only have two pics with them installed.

So it is an IR sensor ?

But in 1/35 it will be hard to scratch I think.

They spent most of the time in the spares bin on the vehicle.. easy enough to scratch

Is that the kill light for the laser kit used on some exercises? There is a bank of sensors in the main photo just next to the light.
