John Masters
Ok...I have had this in the stash for a while and now that I have my vehicle mojo back, I'll give it a go. Has anyone built this? What are the pitfalls? It's a Roden kit, so the detail is very nice. I am already concerned about fit.... The sprue looks complete and complex...lots of teeny tiny pieces. I'll start this soon. --John
GerryW
The only things preventing me from even attempting something in this scale are fully working eyes and suitable fingers. I will however follow your progress with interest. Gerry

I cannot promise a piece-by-piece WiP as if this was a GB, but I will try my best.
Vaastav
Looks interesting John. I had the pleasure of seeing one of these (the only one in India) and I was stunned. Mind if I tag along

John Masters
Typically odd Roden instruction sheet. I really had to decipher what was first. Obviously I will not be attaching the wheels until the end, but I did assemble their parts--rims and tyres...and set them aside. After poking, I have decided to attache the sides of the frame to the primary chassis. Then I will paint this. Then I will paint the exhaust pipe and fuel tank and add them, then the drive set and transfer case, etc...I'll add the running boards, etc...last in this sequence. Typically exquisite detail from Roden... --John
badger
Looking good so far John. I too have this in the stash and have been wary of starting it so I'll follow along with interest if I may. All the best Ben
stevehnz
What Ben said. I've also got one & forewarned is forearmed, hopefully. Steve.
John Masters
I have assembled some stuff. For the chassis I used Vallejo Steel first, then a messy coat of Smoke, followed by a dry brush of aluminum. Except for the rusty part of the exhaust pipe where I used Vallejo Environment Rust Texture. Then I assembled it all...minus the running boards. Then, following the intrusions, I assembled the tool boxes, the wicker basket and the oil can. The wicker basket is 6 pieces. Oil can 3. The too/equipment boxes -2, with an interesting folded technique. I will fill in those gaps in the wicker basket... --John

Courageous
Interesting subject and looking good so far. I have built a few Roden 1/48 aircraft and had no problems with them. I build a fair few limited run kits with their inherent problems and used to moan about fit and stuff but now I shrug my shoulders and get on with it. John Masters
5 hours ago, GerryW said: Coming along very nicely. Thanks Gerry. In assembling the car itself, there is fair amount of flash and fiddly work. For example, the sides...very flashy and it required the pity ends of things to clean it up without removing moulded detail--which is very nice, btw! Be careful to not flatten out the beveled sides when you are removing the sprue gate leftovers... And they look like this... The turret is next and it is a multi-part piece that has to be built in some semblance of order or else you'll end up with a mass of gluey plastic. I have made a composite image...I have left the guns and the Lewis Gun mount off for now. The scarf ring is on, however. Once again, a careful clean-up of parts insures a tight fit. --John
John Masters
Some progress... These are ridiculous. Seeing as Roden is known for their painstakingly detailed 1/72nd scale parts, one would think they could mould 2 shovels, 2 picks axes and two rolls of tarp separately from the tool boxes. But, no. They moulded them right on the things which will make the painting of the boxes very difficult. I painted them...then removed the paint and now they are cleaned and re-primed on the bench. I am now thinking of scratch building the whole set-up. Remove the moulded tools and clean it all up...new tools, etc...It might be a better build. Chime in please. More successful constructions... Here's the rear end...I thought I would need to pre-paint, but in the end, no... But be careful with this part! You have to make sure there is enough of a gap for the rear section of the chassis t poke through. Like this... And so far I have built the larger pieces. I have made a test fit and it seems to all come together pretty well. '' --John

John Masters
I have begun painting. I am masking and hand-painting. It's time consuming and will require a fair amount of touching-up...

John Masters
9 hours ago, flashlight said: Great work with the brush! Thanks Nick... Here are the results of last night's labours. I masked very little, just enough to mask out the area for the dark green. Then hand painted around that. I painted the turret and body separately...Hmmm...I have to finish the wheels today. Then I will weather the body, etc... Then assemble. The last things to go on will be the little things like the headlamps, the crank, and so forth. Basically all the pointy things that would have been snapped off by now. Guns too. I still have to make shovels and picks... --John

John Masters
Tires and wheels into the paintshop for some Tire Black... Since I had some paint in the airbrush I gave the underside a bit of weathering. Once the paint had dried I applied some Florywash... --John
John Masters
Almost done. Wheels on, most of the Florywash has been removed. The closeups show me the I need to take a pint swab to many areas and move more dirt. The shovels and picks look good! Decals, guns...then RFI... -John
