HMS Victory - 1/100 Heller

Tying the cables.
I started from the main mast, as the rod is double with a braid and it will be easier for me to do it without interfering with the front mast.
I will use the PVC blocks from the set - they are good enough in my opinion.
The procedure for tying cables is slow and monotonous.
The next photos will be when the fixed rigging is ready.

Looking good Moarein, What are you using for thread? I was playing with my rope machine over the weekend ( first time) and was successful in making some 3 strand fine enough for the gun carriages. Regards, Pete in RI

Yep, that's the one! I got the PL 3 machine, the small vertical machine and the long horizontal serving machine. On the PL3, I took off the 3 small bobbin holders and made 3 new larger ones from aluminium strip so that I can fit the larger bobbins straight from the store without having to wind the thread onto the small bobbins. Works great!.

For the shrouds I use ready-made synthetic thread, about 0.7 mm thick
The big thread is made of 3 cotton ropes, which a friend made on a rope machine. Then I pass them with a lighter so that there are no protruding hairs.

Work on the main mars - in particular - the system of ropes that protect the big thread from rubbing with the lower edge of the main sail.
I still can't remember what it's called ...

Hiya, This is coming along very nicely. I have pretty much all I need now, just got to get some deck wood. I have started cleaning and adapting the kit hull parts and will take photo's along the way. I will start my own thread shortly once I have learned how to post photo's. ( computer idiot). You have and will continue to, teach me how to build this ship. I know this will be a multi-year project. Regards, Pete in RI

According to my book thay are called crowsfeet and very well modelled. I don't remember seeing this in Longridge's book but I suppose this was general rigging of the time.

i have only seen crowsfeet on one other build,, but was interested in a conversation recently on Model Ship World,

but before i say anything, it is not to upset, annoy or take away anything from your build, which has been done very nice

Crows feet do not appear in any books of reference,

James Lees, in his book, "The Masting and Rigging of English Ships of War" states that crows feet were generally not in use after the end of the eighteenth century and they are certainly not rigged on 'Victory' as she is preserved today - supposedly as she was at Trafalgar.

@Moarein

What's the point of this post if all the Facebook photos disappear as we go along? Not cool for us.

It's a real shame because it's a nice setup.

Really disappointed.

Hello everyone,
I'm sorry about the disappearance of the photos - it turned out quite unpleasant. I use Facebook to show them here.
I will try to find time to upload all the photos again.
If you can recommend me any photo site you use, I would be grateful.
I will show you soon how far I have come - I was on vacation for a while.

The safest still is to create your own website and place the pictures there and just link to them. So you are safe of all the providers stupidities and unreliabilitys!

Great build and a pleasure to follow, Daniel

I have been using Microsoft One Drive.  It is probably more reliable than Facebook for liking to pictures.  Facebook can change their links any time they want.  Microsoft should be a little more stable

About 4000 knots ...
Slow and tedious work ...
I'm uploading the photos again on Facebook, for which I apologize.
I will upload them via another platform soon - when I have time for this... there are lot of pictures...
