Regards, Pete in RI Hello again Mine balustrades olso not fit well on the side sterns. Тhe solution is to cut them, and glue them one by one at a slightly longer interval to fit. Top and bottom also do not fit well, because they are shorter. Was a bit dissapointed that they do not fit better but oh well, thats why we are modellers lol. I ordered a set of sails from HiSModel and they arrived yesterday, nice quality cloth sails. Will buy from there again, as they list wood decks, deadeyes, blocks, etc. I will continue getting parts for the kit before I start building as once I start, I like to just keep at it without delays for parts ordering. Am thinking on how the ship will be displayed when done, size-wise on WHERE to put it in the house and type of base. Still leaning towards a sea-scape. Will have to find some crew figures for that. Pure matt varnish does not look good - I will try a semi-matt. If it does not fit well - there will be no varnish. First I riveted to the side - I liked the result so I started on the ship. I also have wild pear stumps in the basement that have been drying for years For me, the pear is the best material on a scale of 1/100. I slightly corrected the black lines on the bottom row of gun ports. It must be able to cut slats 0.5 mm thick. The machine is old - I bought it from a man for about $ 40 - it was rusty, but the engine was working. I lubricated the engine, fixed some other problems, painted it in my favorite red and made the countertop + aluminum guide. There are several orders that can be dated. The order from 28 June 1771 stated "in letters a foot high, and inclosed in a compartment", Bugler precises "painted in yellow". That was the version originally displayed in Portsmouth until some years ago and being shown on the Heller kit. In 1772 the order was changed into "without compartment in letters as large as the counter would admit", (Laughton: Old Figureheads and Sterns) and was officially kept until the end of the century. In Keppels fleet the names were dropped in 1778 to avoid giving information to the enemy. This contradict some models and paintings like "Barfleur", 1740, "Royal Oak", 1741 and others where the names were shown much earlier or later. These models give a hint upon letter style used spacing, have a look at the NMM. But this could have been for identifying the model or depicted ship and not following the real ship. What does this mean for the Vic? If one builds the Vic as she is displayed in Portsmouth, I would follow the actual version, it fits better the contemporary evidences. As the ship appeared completely different in many aspects at Trafalgar, I strongly believe, she had no name on her that period. Neither Turner or Livesay or other contemporary sources indicate this, possibly for the reasons Keppel gave.
