reggie78usmc
I was feeling creative and wanted to do another "what if" scenario with an F-16. This is my version of of an F-16 with BDU splinter camo based on the color scheme from the Alaska aggressor squadron. I know at that Marine and Navy pilots flew F-16s in an aggressor role a few years back and serving as a US Marine for over 8 years made this kit even more fun to build. The model kit is a 1/72 F-16C from Frog models (Academy mold). I've built several F16s now in 1/72 a few Hasegawa older molds and several Tamiya kits in this scale. I found this kit to be more detailed than the Hasegawa kits but in my opinion the Tamiya kit in this scale is still the best. I also read there were some shape issues as the nose section is to narrow and the spacing between the intake and lower aircraft assembly was to little. comparing it with the Tamiya kit I see the subtle differences. The kit comes with a decent amount of armament and weapons pods but unfortunately Frog did not provide instructions on assembly so I had to guess and research the proper placement of the targeting pods and armament. overall it was a fun build and i used alot of masking tape for the splinter camo, i know there are paint masks out there but it would take over a month to receive in the mail. The decals are a mash out of left over Carcal Dark Vipers and Furball F-35 decals that I did not want to waste. I included some reference shots for what inspired me Thanks for looking! daryl_five_zero
Flawless finish, as per! I've only recently been made aware of the BDU splinter camo on some F-16's - I'll definitely be having a go at one myself at some point. Here's to hoping it's half as good as yours! Top job.
