Tamiya 1/35 Challenger 1

Right, at ease.

Where were we...

Driver painted and inserted into his position.

Fresh faced little sole isn't he...

Spot the mistake with the drivers remaining anatomy...

Lenses fitted to headlamps and gpmg.

Had a play with my new favourite modelling substance.....Green stuff!

It's great isn't it, so much better than damp pva soaked tissue?

Created covers for two of the turret bins and the commanders gpmg ammo boxes.

Even though you can hardly see it there is a camo net in its stowage bin .

(I know it still has the erroneous yellow triangle on the turret).

Almost finished.....

In natural light the rain marks/ dust streaking is a little too heavy so that needs knocking back a bit, i know the Purbecks in summer can create a lot of pale dust but.....

Perhaps a matt coat on the bin covers and need to add more weathering, I've ordered a couple of products to play with in that regard.

Just leaves the remaining figures, for which I still need to order heads. I would have done that yesterday but....toss up between 2 sets of heads or a new kit from Takom,  guess which won....

Apologies for the hiatus in service and I can't promise to catch up, looks like I've missed loads!

(Little mate of 14+yrs is reaching that stage where each day could be his last... but each day he rallies and proves me wrong!)

I picked up most of mine at Telford direct from them, they are a subsidiary of DEF Resin, the prices were not too bad, about 20 a set. I know lucky model sell them as well normally with free shipping.

Telford.....remember those....model shows, them were the days!

Even cancelled Bolton 2021!

I'll see how those malformed copies look once fitted with new heads for now. However if I get around to doing the Chieftain etc then....

Too easy to spend .....

Spot on Darryl and I do like those bin covers👍I just might have to change mine when I get going again😀
Why do you think the streaks are to much looks ok to me.

Hi Ivan, try the Green stuff, so easy to use and works really well!

I got the idea from Steve and Dan both big advocates of it.

As for the pale streaks,  looks a bit stark in natural light, might tone down a bit once its weathered fully.

And no-ones mentioned the poor bugger getting track rash........

Excellently done.  Out of interest what green paint did you use.  I'm nearing that stage with my Chieftain and that looks better that Field Gray.

Bill

Thanks Bill,  Yeah the driver had no use for his arm, gave it a black sleeve and ooops nasty accidents will happen!

Thanks chaps

Well that’s looking pretty darned good !!

I like those heavy streaks, the ones you think are too much.

Tanks are big, dirty, lumbering beasts !! ;)

Cheers bud, going to have a play with these.

Don't appear to be as substantial or gooey as I'd imagined (mud at least).

An Oman you say.....I enjoy a little friendly competition....if I'm on the same field!

Guess I'll park the M4A1, cuts the list down!😉

i really want one of these....all that rough armour and really bad weld beads ...i'd be a pig in poop.

Looks a good-un,  needs some Fruils, obvs! Can just imagine it in a worn white wash or before the Reichstag....

and can somebody tell me how and what GB's are wouldn't mind having a go

You'll find the general rules further down the BM site but essentially it's a specific build, within guidelines, usually type or event specific, over a limited period of time, approx 3mths.

Never done one myself but have signed up to the Pzr III  one in Jan and tempted by the Panther one starting soon and the Gulf war one too for that matter...just orderd the Takom Iraqi Type 69....why....????

  • 1 month later...

Whilst on a bit of a roll decided to try and get a little more done on this, it's been sat precariously on the shelf above the bench for too long needing completion.

So whilst still not finished every little helps, concentrated on the base today, not perfect by any means but....

The Chally itself still needs a crew and some final weathering, however, now the base is looking something like I can at least weather it now when given half a chance.

Good to see this one on the go again mate 👌👍

Cheers, paused it a while ago, fancied a change, started with the Sherman then the Panther GB started so it got a little side tracked / forgotten about however it's still with us and must get it finished sooner or later...

Nice work Darryl looks great 👍 👌

Thanks chaps, appreciated.

Never tried a base of this size before, had originally thought of something bigger, a full length hillside behind with the Chally going up complete with range marker board etc....

....realised that would be rather big...Created something more manageable instead.

Biggest thing left to do is figures.....

Must get some of these kits finished,  never had so many on the go at once...

Cheers
