TAMIYA RGV-T 500cc 1999 & 2000 BIKES

Recommended Posts

Both suzuki bikes riden by Kenny Roberts jnr a few subtle differences between the 1999 bike still in factory colours the brain child of engineer Warren willing ended a 3year dryspell for the factory and they managed to finish the season Second in the championship,In 2000 in the new Telefonica MoviStar colours, with the frame on the 00 cut back to save weight. And other main componants moved to a central position to optimise ballance the V4 motor having been tuned for better handling went on and ended the season by winning the championship with 2 races in hand...

So far a nice build part of my stash and as good a time as any to start building them... chassis pictures attached progress as and when i get the chance, good news weathers bad in the north just now so hope to get some relief from the garden duties and general diy someone has a list, had forgotten how tricky tyre decals are....

Hello trust you are all fit and well?

With all this spare time progress is good, both power plants identical and both went together quite well, the power plants and frame assembly also went together with no major issues "yip yip"

pictures with the tyre decals are of the 2000 bike others .... well that would be the 1999 xr89 bike

like most I normally strip the chrome plating and respray but so far I have failed to find anything that is a good replica, so I have used the coated parts and I think they look ok any ideas on what a good substitute would be for the chrome?

Looking good and nice clean builds. 👍

What colour did you use for the rear damper. (First photo, second post.)Are you using Tamiya instructions or is there a readymade colour available?

As to chrome I use AK extreme metal which is really nice to use and leaves a great finish. Although I have never used it to guarantee it, looking on another thread, Alclad also seems to give a great finish.

The damper was a mixture of tamiya paints 1 part x32 Titanium silver & 3 parts x26 Clear orange.
ak exteam will keep an eye open for it ,The allclad works really well once sprayed it misty but drys out to a bright shiny finish but i find it rubs of really easy..hence why i asked might just be me  when i clear coat it it turns misy again

Have a look on YouTube for David Thibodeau’s RC 213v with Gravity Colours. In part 2 he uses Tamiya TS83 over gloss black.  It looks spot on as Honda’s frames look semi-polished.

It also depends on the original, bare ally like the Honda, or polished ally like Aprillia. I would give the AK a shot as they are more robust than Alclad.

I really like the front stand!  I'll be making one myself.  Excellent work too.

I drilled out the fat centre piece so i could alter the lengths of posts used but it works quite well

thank you

Well back to work this week some what quiter than usual but great for catching up rreally didnt like the working from home thing to many distractions.....
bikes on the other hand have come on a fair bit
the movistar i really though would be a bugg** to decal but turned out really great one or 2 minor issues but nothing mental, bit of a panic when i put the micro sol on it as the clear bubbled right up it settled down by morning, i would have clear coated but due to an issue with my air brush that will have to wait for a week or two and i managed to get hold of some polishing compound so would like to try this...before i sign off on these two

The other suzuki xr89 went together well and i never gave the decals a second thought till i picked up the first one for the exhaust can, it just disintegrated i have honestly never seen that before, so i used the ones from the 2000 bike and they were fine, from that point on every care was taken and i managed to get most on with no issues, but all were very brittle i even thought of buying the reissued model to steel them from that kit, i have pictures of them and might print a new set but it looks ok not clear coated yet, worst seemed to be the carbon decals on the seat and tail i have patched badly so this area i will very probably redo, let me know your thoughts
on the movistar i used an after market carbon decal it looks great but hard to see in the pictures
