Erwin
Hi all, I'm joining with this Matchbox oldie. It's not my very first model. That's the Matchbox 1/72 nd Me 109 E. The Heyford is one of many Matchbox kits I build at the time. Together with Airfix and Revell the only brands I could afford. And were available. I'm going to build it unpainted ,straight from the box like I was 14 years old (46 years ago). Edited June 11, 2020 by Erwin
modelling minion
That is a great choice Erwin, a true Matchbox classic that nobody else would have dreamed of manufacturing. I look forward to seeing how it goes together as it is one of the few Matchbox aircraft I didn't build. Welcome to the GB!

That may have contributed to the demise of Matchbox as a kit-maker, but it does mean that there are some real gems out there, especially when Revell sees fit to reissue them. I have built this kit before (1984), and have the Revell re-box in the stash, waiting for a suitable time to build it. Just not now though ...
PeterB
Hi Erwin, It is actually not a bad kit. I painted mine in overall Nivo (Night Invisible Orfordness) and rigged it with stretched sprue, and it is sitting a couple of feet away from me covered in dust and about 40 years worth of smoke from my pipe - the rigging makes it almost impossible to clean! Cheers Pete 1

You sound like you are made for the Blitzbuild GB at the end of this month ! At a hour a kit, can we put you down for a dozen ? 😉 cheers Pat 2
stevej60
Not enough Matchbox kits so far and especially great to see this one Erwin,I remember the Gnat was my first ever build but wasn't long before the 109 joined it.

Erwin
1 1/2 hours later : FINISHED ! Rigging ? Small parts ? Struts ? Filling gabs ?Painting ? I didn't do that when I was 15 ! Back then I didn't use Revell's fine tube glue.As seen in the picture.Don't recall them having that yet. I used a regular tube with a big opening. The mess I made ! 🤣 Edited June 12, 2020 by Erwin
Dansk
Absolutely fantastic, now that sums up the essence of this GB. Great job 👍

Jinxman
Great stuff, I would have been so happy to have this kit all those years ago.
AdrianMF
Proper old-school! You should have saved it for the Blitzbuild GB and done a squadron by tea-time. It’s nice to crank out a kit occasionally where you just have fun building! Regards, Adrian
