Reconnaissance vehicle EBR-10 Hobby Boss 1/35

Recommended Posts

Hello Fellow modelers

One of the most elegant vehicle of reconnaissance French Panhard Ebr-10.

Defmodels wheels highly recommended instead the vinyl ones provided by Hobby Boss.

No traps with this kit except the bad location of one headlight (the larger headlight located front right side should be at the rear). A really pleasant kit to build. Ideal for beginners

Take care

Cheers

Pierre

Now I am off to google what those middle wheels are all about.👍

France has long valued wheeled vehicles with good firepower because of their strategic mobility.  France is a big country to move forces around.  But wheeled vehicles have lesser off-road mobilty than tracked, whereas tracked vehicles are much slower and really require to be transported long distances.  The jack-up steel wheels on the EBR allowed it to travel fast on the Autoroutes and other roads and yet still have better off-road performance at the other end than a solely rubber-tyred vehicle.  They were raised for road travel and lowered when required off-road.

While the steel wheel idea has not been used again, the jack-up central wheel has been used on the 6x6 wheeled vehicles that replaced the EBR.  The idea actually pre-dates WW2, when the original prototype of the EBR was built, as does the oscillating turret.  It was evacuated to N Africa and lost there and the project hidden from the Germans.  After WW2 the idea was resurrected and updated from 20mm to 75mm firepower.

Russia of course used a similar idea with the small retractable belly wheels on the BRDM series.
