Massimo
Good evening mates, I haven't finished my Ark Royal yet, but I need to get involved in something else, not EDSG for a little while, so I reviewed all the kits in my stash and decided to go for this one. Although some time ago, I would have never bought a Canberra kit because I never liked this aircraft, at least not the bomber/trainer versions, a few years ago, while I was in the UK for work, I bought a magazine with an article about the retirement of the aircraft at RAF Marham. Airliners.net photo removed - read the pinned post Here below you can find a report of the event: https://www.airshows.co.uk/features/2006/canberra-pr9-final-deployment/ So I fell in love with this version, with an all british side canopy and longer wings. I found the hempf / light aircraft grey camouflage unusual and the retirement scheme irresistible, so I went to Lowestoft and bought the Airfix 1/48th kit. In addition to the kit, I bought two sets of decals by Model Alliance: one for the stencils and one for the disbandment special scheme. At that time I built only 1/48th scale kits, but now I think for an aircraft of this size 1/72nd is much more appropriate. Would you believe that I also bought a Xtrakit 1/72 kit for a friend?? I couldn't resist and started sticking bits together in the hotel, but then... I put it aside for 14 years. When I found it (in a box with a Revell B17!!!) after 4 builds in 11/72nd scale, it looked bigger than ever!!! My friend's Xtrakit came back to mind!!! Looks more like a sceptre than a fuselage! with wings on , it's huge! It'll just fit into my showcase When I bought the kit, I had started assembling a few bits, like the interior, but the layout is completely wrong... must have been drawn for another version. At some point in the past, I had considered buying the Pavla set for the cockpit and the operator's pit, but never did. This is exactly the scenario I need now to get my mojo back. I'll build the interior from scratch.I've decided to start from the left consolle, which comes like this. Using bits of styrene and plstic rods, my preferred building materials, I've modified the throttle and added various panels and switches. The side wall was a bit...naked...so I added some detail to it. The side wall is slightly longer to match the top insert. Once the cockpit is in place, it looks much better! That's it for now. Next step, I'll add the side panels and pocket. Thanks for watching! Massimo

Massimo
Good afternoon mates, a small update: I removed thefrontinstrumentpanel and added the side panels and documents' pocket. Then I made the front instrument panel by glueing a piece of styrene to the front cover. It's stilloversized on the right side, but I'll shape it correctly after building the right consolle. I test fitted the cockpit into the fuselage. Next step is the right consolle. Thanks for watchingand stay safe! Ciao Massimo

bar side
Nice. The PR.9 was my first 1/48 kit when I got back in to aircraft models. Didn’t know about after market stuff back then so built it out of the box. She is big and a major tail sitter

Massimo
Good afternoon mates! First let me Thank you all for the nice comments, then I need to thank @Scimitar F1 for his comment On 30/04/2020 at 18:44, Scimitar F1 said: Don’t forget the Hypersonic canopy set - basically essential! I wasn't aware of the canopy's wrong shape, thus I searched on the net and found this review by @Mike There's also a very useful link to the Hypersonic's website, so I ordered the set straight away! It isn't cheap, but I'm not a Vac-form man, thus I went for it!!! Now back to my progress. I forgot to mention my first intervention. Behind the seat, there's some sort of... rollbar , or whathever it is. The kit part was some sort of solid block, so I drilled some holes to replicate the original part. Last night I added the right consolle, which is angled. I 'll add instruments later. For now I just need it to stick and give strength to the cochpit. This morning I spent some time detailing the cockpit dashboard .Here below a few pictures: I also added some detail to the right side of the cockpit cover. Once the cover is in place, the aperture isn't that big, but the interior can be seen. At the moment it's all white, but once paintedblack it'll b a lot......darker!!! That's it for now, I'll concentrate on the right consolle next. Ciao and stay safe! Massimo Edited May 2, 2020 by Massimo

I'm sure I won't!I've seen the pictures and the comparison with the Airfix one and it looks great! Here below a few pictures from Hypersonic's website. I haven't got any experience with clear resin, but I'm sure it'll make a difference for the kit! Thanks again!!! Mike
Looks fantastic compared to the Airfix one. someone probably sneakily decided to leave out the balloon shape for cost reasons. A three-part mould is far more expensive than a two-part one, and so forth. Coincidentally, I was perusing some of Jeffrey's sets a couple of days ago, finally putting them in the correct boxes. He's a man that loves accuracy.
