Airfix 1/72 Firefly - any scuttlebutt

If Airfix are working on a new 1/72nd (or 1/48th for that matter) Firefly it is going to remain a closely-guarded commercial secret until or unless Airfix decide otherwise.  Even if you were to buttonhole an Airfix employee at, for example the IPMS model show at Telford the best you could hope for is along the lines of “I couldn’t possibly comment.”  If you really want a nice new Firefly try  getting it onto Airfix’s wish list.

Would be nice to know if the Airfix 1/72 Fairey Firefly is accurate.

You mean the 1965 rivet-covered kit? The one with the too narrow fuselage, chord-deficient wings, snub-nose, and completely lacking in detail kit? It may 'look like a Firefly' but it isn't particularly accurate.

That may be, but at least Airfix got the lower cowling contours correct on their 1/72 Firefly, which Special Hobby did not. Very, very hard to correct, and that 'double bubble'  or 'crease' between the lower and upper  cowling is a very distinctive feature of that version of the Firefly. My feeble opinion, to be sure.

They can't be ( yet )  - I haven't expended months upgrading the old kit with more resin, brass and scratchbuilding than original plastic. Normally they wait till the model has been on the shelf a week ( they did with the Buccaneer, Victor, Sea Vixen..... )
