Plumbum
I put this aside last December to finish a few other projects. I am now going to finish it up. I have the new decals, Xtradecal X72294, and am doing aircraft XV418 from 92 Squadron in 1979. It will be in overall BS381C:627 light aircraft grey. I am using 2 dual missile launchers on the inboard pylons and fuel tanks on the outer pylons. No other ordinance. I have the launchers all made and ready to install, the RWR fin tip antenna is also done. The kit was for an older FGR.2 with no RWR antenna on the fin.---John
Guest
I have most of the parts on I want to start painting. I will first mask and spray the rear metalic area around the exhausts and up and over the stabs. Then I can add the fuel tanks and missile pylons and paint the entire air frame light aircraft grey.---John

Guest
Thanks, the metallic area was masked, painted and looking good.---John
Guest
I have the air frame masked and painted. I used a spray closely resembling FS36440. I believe that is close to it's British counterpart.---John

jean
Hi John, Â great build and paint work. The light grey British Phantoms are not legions in kit form. I love these Fujimi kits. Beautiful surface details, possibly better than the new Airfix ones. I will be following the sequel! Â Keep having fun. JR
Guest
Thank you. After this will be the excellent Hasegawa 1/72 F-4B Phantom II. I was hoping to find VF-114 Aardvark decals but it seems everyone does them in F-4J configuration. Maybe an F-4B of VF-111 Sundowners. Here is my "other" Fujimi Brit Phantom, F-4K. I am still pondering an Airfix.---John
Guest
It's on its "feet". I am going in no certain order as far as final assembly goes. I still have to detail paint the stabs and finish assembling the main gear doors and missile rails. Once that is all done I can gloss cote and decal.---John
Guest
Almost ready for gloss cote and decals. I am leaving off the probes on the leading edge of the tail and the sensors inside the intakes until the decaling is done. I need to paint the RWR on the fin tip though. I got another 1/72 Fujimi to do after this, an F-4J in Aardvark decals.---John
SAT69
That's a very sharp looking model you have going there. Looking forward to seeing the finished product.
goat89
Shaping up to be good! BTW, in your opinion, hows the Fujimi kit so far? Good fitting? Skill level?
Guest
Thanks. The Fujimi is one of my favorite Phantom kits. I have built the old 1st generation Hasegawa, new Hasegawa, Monogram, ancient Revell and it is not the most detailed but one of the most accurate and a fairly low but not too low parts count. The Hasegawa has a better cockpit but I really don't like the fuselage, too many sections, more seams, but that's just me. The fit is not bad at all. The newer kits had better cockpits, the British FG.1 and FGR.2 by Fujimi had much better details than their older kits. I would put it skill level 2. I have an excellent new Hasegawa 1/72 F-4B to do but for some reason Fujimi has a certain "charm". That's probably why I will start my just purchased Fujimi F-4J before the new Hasegawa F-4B. They seem faster to build IMHO.---John
Guest
Just for nostalgia sake here is the first generation Hasegawa 1/72 F-4 Phantom repopped by AMT. I built it as a B because it had a very thin wing. The IR seeker under the nose didn't exist so I scratched one from a Hasegawa 1/72 F/A-18A Hornet laser designator. The kit was full of raised panel lines and lotsa rivets! Came out OK for a 40 plus year old kit.---John
Guest
Was "tooted" as an F-4 Air Force or Navy Phantom.---John

Guest
I found a set of missiles from my Fujimi F-4K all painted up that I never used. So I added them to the rails on this build. Not so naked looking now.---John
Guest
There is about a dozen or less stencils and I can add the pitot tube and sensor probes to the inside of the intakes and it's done. Just in time as my 1/72 Fujimi F-4J Phantom II is due in tomorrow. Can't have too many Fujimi Phantoms!---John
