Italeri Vosper beginners OOB with a twist

So it’s time to drag this back out of the weeds.

 

I ordered the Italeri horse drawn Breda 20mm set from Lucky Model back in April when I started this whole thing, but still no sign of it. I finally gave up and recently ordered the Tamiya/Italeri LRDG Chevrolet and trailed Breda so I could get a bit closer to finishing this build.

 

I used the metal barrel from the Aber etch set, but not much else

 

 

 

It’s a fiddly little assembly, and it looks like it’ll be delicate when reassembling after paint.

 

At least it’s progress 🙂

 

 

Does anyone know whether the Italian ammo box/ready use locker would have been used, or would it have been an allied type?

Thanks for this.  I was looking for a way to make 1/48 scale flight deck netting for the diorama base for a Wasp helicopter (see my WIP over in aircraft).  I was going to try to find some net curtaining (need ~2mm spacing) but it's all a bit fancy so this could be the solution I need.

If you’re trying to make rigid netting at that same thread pitch I would seriously just go with gauze and impregnate/soak it with thin CA to make it rigid. Building one from scratch the way I did is laborious and almost too delicate to use. Perhaps buy a cheap sieve and cut the netting out of that?

Thanks for the advice.  I think a sieve would be too fine - I'm ideally looking at about 2 mm spacing.

 

Where did you get your gauze from?

The gauze came from a first aid kit I took out of scrap German armoured vehicle in 2012, I imagine it’s fairly generic, put I can post you some if you want?
 

The problem with gauze, and the reason I suggest impregnating it with CA or similar, is that it’s a fairly loose weave, so the strands are free to move relative to each other. A bit of care getting even spacing, and then “sticking” it together when I hand painted it seemed to do the job for me, but my usage is in the background, rolled up, whereas yours is very much on show, so it might not be adequately regular 🤷‍♂️

Sorry for not responding sooner.  I ended up using embroidery mesh for mine which gave just about the right spacing and was really easy to work.  Very stiff though, especially when painted.

New to group but been dabbling with models on and off for 35 years (small scale armour, naval and helicopters predominantly) 

 

I have just picked up this kit and about the start building as MTB 82 from the Med in early 1942. She appears to have been fitted with a captured Breda 20/65. I have picked up the Italeri horse drawn kits and have a couple of questions, hope its ok to throw them here ?

 

Those that have used this kit, did you assemble as version a or b - difference appears to be in angle/curve of predictive sight frame and I am leaning towards a from the pictures I have been able to find. Thoughts ?

 

Secondly it appears kit includes an unmentioned (in instructions) deck mount but looking at height above deck it would put gun base seems to be taller than what was used - I am thinking of just cutting down to an appropriate height but interested to hear what other that have used this kit have done.

 

In past I have used a online modelling diary to help maintain my motivation - would people be happy to see another in progress on this kit ?

Welcome Alun.

 

Sorry I can't answer your technical questions as not a coastal forces expert but I'm sure someone will be able to answer - there are lots on here who specialise in that genre.  But I think I speak for everyone when I say that we'd love to see another build documented.  Just start a new thread in Work in Progress and good luck!

Edit: On second thought Al's deck mount appears to be sitting a bit too high. I have some other period pics of Breda guns on Vospers but none show the mount clearly .
