RobL
Hey all Currently building a SHAR FRS1, to be painted in a paint scheme pertinent to that little argument in the south Atlantic during the '80s... As I know little about RAF/RN ordnance I'm wondering what colour the "sidewinders" (if they are even actually sidewinders) were actually painted vs what the kit instructions state? Thanks in advacnce Edited April 27, 2020 by RobL
CharlieNZ
AIM-9L Sidewinder used in the Falklands should be FS 36375. Seeker head dark metallic anodised grey, sometimes with a greenish tinge. Aft section is the rocket motor and has a brown band denoting low explosive for the propellent. Warhead section has a yellow band denoting HE.
RobL
Ah thanks. That'd be Light Ghost Grey then. The precise grey I don't have... I'll probably have to go with Vallejo Model Air 050 as that's the closest I probably have. Don't really want to order, at this time, another bottle of paint just for the sake of a couple of sidewinders. I usually paint them white with a black nose, looks OK in 1/72 scale...
