Well heres the second gallery submission, another NA39!

Airfix 1/48 scale Buccaneer MK 2

Modifications were more extensive than expected and a lot of time was spent smoothing and blending modifications.  Changes were made to all panels of the kit and include .......

Removed jet intakes and replaced with Heritage Aviation S1 Resin versions.

Removed the nose at the first panel and replaced with a flattened Tornado GR3 nose, faired in with plastic card and Milliput. A large lump of Milliput being put into the tip of the nose to support the probe later.

Cut upper fuselage behind rear cockpit to remove 7mm. Cut lower fuselage infront of weapons bay and remove 7mm while leaving a staggered join to the top half.

Assembled speed brake and attached to rear fuselage with additional 5mm extension to restore fuselage length.

Changed the design of the airbrake fins to an earlier representation.

Rear walls of wheel wells removed as these are not evident on the real machines.

Fin shortened and bullet fairings removed. New rear fairing made from an old bomb.

Tail planes widened to meet new fin profile,

Pin inserted into brass tube and drilled into the extreme nose to make extra long nose probe.

Wing vortex generators removed.

Bulges and protrusions on weapons bay door removed.

Aerials relocated to spine from later position on fin fillet.

2 Scoops made and added to fin fillet

Pitot probe replaced with carbon fibre rod superglued to the original pylon.

Paint from Mr Colour, Blue 5, white 316, Aerials 19.

Decals from Xtradec and lettering from Modeldecal.

This is my entry for this GB. It is the old Airfix kit with a freightdog update set and Model alliance decals to make one of the aircraft that went to Bahrain as part of Op Granby in 1991.

The build thread is here:-

Here is my submission to the group build. It’s the awful Airfix 1/48 kit, and was a real handful. Here is a link to the build.

I’m sorry that I didn’t take more pics as I was building, I must get better... I promise 🤔😉

This is the Czech Master Resin 1/72 Operation Granby Buccaneer S Mk 2B depicted as XW533, Miss Jolly Roger/Fiona/Glenfacias, sometime after 2nd March (when the 'Sky Pirates' logo was added) and before returning to Lossiemouth on 17th March.

'Fiona', chosen as namesake to my wife, flew 14 missions with 11 targets successfully destroyed.  Around 20th February the TIALD started to become available to the Tornados enabling them to self-designate and freeing up the Buccaneers to add their own weight of bombs to the campaign.  With the achievement of air supremacy the decision was taken to remove the AIM-9L Sidewinder from the outer port pylon and with the inner starboard pylon already spare, this enabled the Buccaneers to increase their effective bomb load to 2 UK 1000lb Paveway II laser guided bombs.  This is the load out I have chosen to show here.

Thanks for all the encouragement and advice; it was my first group build and I really enjoyed it.

FROG F.238 1/72 Blackburn Buccaneer S.2a.

Fuselage of the kit is an empty shell with only a tiny cockpit floor for company. I've filled it in somewhat, extended the fin by 2mm but otherwise it's much as FROG intended. I intended to do the 12 Squadron RAF one from the kit with massive Martels, but realised that there's only one Buccaneer scheme for me, so here it is from early deployment on Victorious, in a clean, no-pylons configuration:

WIP is here if you are interested in seeing bits of plastic card being chopped up.

And many thanks to @Col. for hosting!

Thanks for looking,

Adrian

Going to have to call this one finished as I will have no more time to work on it before the 8/16 deadline.  That includes a lack of time to take decent pictures, so please accept my apologies for the lousy LED lit basement pictures!  It really makes the grey look much more blue in these pics than in person.  You will certainly notice the variation between the lighting in my spray booth and on top.  Anyhow, it is the best I could pull off at 12:30 last night!

I had hoped to put this on a base modeled to look like the roof at Brough per the photographic inspiration for this build, but I didn't find the time to pull that together.  It is also sans nav lights because I found that my clear red was dried up when I opened it.  I will post some sunlit pics in RFI once I get around to doing those things.

Anyhow, enough excuses, here is what I have to offer the group together with my thanks for an enjoyable group build experience and lots of Buccing around!  Cheers everyone - Jack

I based this model on a photograph of XN975 that I found in Wings of Fame Vol.14 (Pg.100), adjusting the Kits World decals scheme to suit. I used the old Airfix kit, adding Neomega resin sets for the cockpit, undercarriage bays and intakes, the fit of those parts was not without its challenges, but I got there in the end. I also used an Airwaves etch set to update the airbrakes and scratch built a rough mechanism using the parts in the new Airfix kit as a rough guide.

The aircraft spent time with Royal Aircraft Establishment at Bedford and West Freugh, and the Radar Research Establishment at Pershore.
