Anyone got any thoughts on any aftermarket modern JGSDF quipment. Seems to be the one country that doesn't get their own set so would the US Set my close enough. If anyone has any photos I could perhaps try to make my own 😉

thanks... did google that sort of topic but couldn't see such a good set of photos. The packs etc all look generic so think the US kit might be OK

I presume you modern JGSDF equipment for their AFVs? Or their infantry units? Since we are in the modern AFV sub-section, I will start with that.

In the last decade or so, the pics of JGSDF equipment for their AFVs have been rather 'clean'. Take a look at their pics from Iraq or UN missions and you will know what I mean. Even their exercises in Yakima, USA, their AFV is 'clean'.

Infantry equipment, however, is slighlty different. Their infantry guys do actively purchase 3rd party stuff, SUBJECT to their unit stance. You will find its more lax in the more elite units, especially the Amphibious Rapid Deployable Brigade (ARDB) in the last few years. They have been training ALOT with their American counterparts (USMC) and choice of equipment definitely rubs off them, though not too much till they look completely different haha.

yeah saw that they very rarely (ever) have stowage. Am doing a couple of what if schemes so want to load them up (in fact they aren't necessarily JGSDF units, just vehicles that the JGSDF use (but could be being used bey some unknown country).. will go with a load up anyway as they both suit themselves to being stowed up

To my eye, the JGSDF doesn't seem to have much 'fruit salad' on the outside of their vehicles other than square stowage bins and rolled-up netting/canvas (possibly the odd set of skis in winter).

It can be difficult to find shots of JGSDF vehicles being loaded down with stowed gear. I'm not sure why that is - they must do some pretty intensive field training.

Still, if you use some Japanese language search terms, on Google Japan, you can find some gems.

Here are a few I've managed to find:

http://caffeone33.rssing.com/chan-17509428/all_p21.html (you'll have to scroll through the page to find some really good photos of loaded up JGSDF tanks)

http://kampfgebiet.server-shared.com/index_militar_jsdf-66-4.html (some good shots of Type 74s towards the bottom of the page)
