Perfect grade Falcon Empire strikes back conversion.

Recommended Posts

Hi all .
Joined this forum a while ago, been a long time lurker and thought it was high time I joined in.
So here goes. Already made a start to this project.
As per title i'd like to do an Empire strikes back version of the Falcon. My fav movie of all time!

The fundamental difference are alot more lights, the gaining of the two extra landing gear and landing gear bulkheads. Also the lower maintenance pits are different.

The cockpit is also different compared to the first movie, but luckily The kit comes with an empire cockpit already.....

I bought the parts needed from shapeways.com .

Obviously this has turned into a money pit... >_< so hope I dont fluff this up..

Choping into the hull eeeeek..

Marking out new maintanence pits with tape

Parts Tacked in place with CA glues then epoxied. I used previously cut hull material to re-dress the maintenence pits. Also a good blast of primer. came out great so pleased . Phew!

Upon studying the movie the Falcons headlights are sometimes Red and sometimes Clear so I have installed two Bi colour 3mm LEDs.

Added strip LEDs for rear engine With a ramp up and flicker effect. Using an Arduino nano.
The Youtube video does'nt do it justice the fade up is much more gradual but you get the idea :D https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CLnkOYh_PXE&feature=youtu.be

Using 3mm LEDs sanded flush to hull for landing lights and 5mm LEDS used in a 10mm hole for the Well lights. I put the Well 5mm Leds in bulb holders from an old AMT kit. Also used 2mm Lighthouse Leds for the warning lights.

Thats all so far. Next on the agends is to start work on the cockpit.

But for now time to lurk and admire all your amazing models.

Cheers

That is one hell of a start to your forum posts, very nice work and great taste in films.... 😉

Very kind . Thank you.

Still scratching my head in how I will display this one. Not sure if i'll do some kind of diorama. Or just a stand for flight mode.

Cheers

Welcome aboard!

That looks great, I've failed miserably at most of my lighting attempts (mostly due to my head exploding with it!) ao am always in awe at projects that have it done so well :)

Thank you for the warm welcome. lighting models is a learning curve for sure. :D  Feel free to message me if you need any help with wiring.

Cheers

Work on the cockpit Some decals (Very nice) and a lil hand painting (not so nice, to small for my clumsy hands).

I sanded smooth 90% of the raised details so the decals  would adhere neat and  tidly without air trapped behind. :D

Wow, that's looking great! I did my PG Falcon as an ESB Falcon with all the lights, but those landing gear boxes weren't available yet when I did mine. Yours is looking awesome!

Yeah I didn't do any build threads of my Falcon. I did, however, take photos of the process, which you can see here:

I built it with the intent to take photos and make composites. You can see a few of those here: https://flic.kr/s/aHskCsXqJr
