Ragnar's Lounge and Grill - Nordic II Chat - Bar closed..... for now

Recommended Posts

....and that's it folks, the now very fat Ragnor has made the call, it's time to get back into the boats :crying:..........and home at the end of another very successful grand tour/build.

Thanks you to all those who joined in, whether you completed your builds or not, either way I hope you had fun and enjoyed the build.

There are some amazing builds in the gallery and those that managed to get there should be very proud of their builds. I'll try and get a poll together at some stage, currently "out bush" with work.

Again thank you everyone that joined in, was a please to follow all your builds.

If there is real interest in continuing Ragnor's tour in 2023, then let me know as I have a few ideas to make it a wee bit different.......

In the meantime, for the first time I have a model (my Growler), some glue, sharp cutty things and some sanding stuff with me....... so who knows what I'll get up too.....

Thanks All.

I was just as fun as the first Nordic GB, even though I myself only finished one of my two builds.

And to answer @trickyrich question about 2023, all I can say that personally will I only build Swedish related subjects in 2023 to celebrate Sweden's 500 Anniversary as a Nation.

I'll make one exception to that rule since I intend to build the Blackbird over the Baltic Sea that was escorted out of Swedish territorial by 2 JA37 and 2 AJ37 Viggen. , but I'll reduce my presentation to one AJ and one JA.

/Bosse - who will continue to bore you with BBQ pictures, next stop; Bomber/Strike/Ground Attack GB.  :D :eat: :tasty:

My thanks to Rich @trickyrich and all the participating members. It was very pleasurable to follow that many nice builds.

Sorry I couldn't finish my only build for this GB. It now sits among the KUTA and I still intend to show a presentable Tunnan (I did damage the first coat of paint - scratches and chipping - when removing the masking for the other metal shades, so there is a good deal to repaint 😡).

May 2022 be a happy (modelling) year for everyone.

Pat.

I didn't join this one but I watched it with great interest. Such a lot of awesome and different builds.

In fact, I  decided to purchase something for the 2023 Nordic Group Build.... and then I heard a lot of murmuring in the chat threads here. So can someone tell me, how bad is it?

Some Viggens were built in Nordic I, including some 1/48 from Special Hobby (isn't that the same as Tarangus? I'm not sure). You might want to browse the builds there.

Edit: this one's interesting, it also links to a very good build report on another forum.

Well!!!!!  First off don't believe everything you read, if you get a model to review for free you may be less inclined to give negative comments as apposed it one you have had to spend your hard earned cash on!

It's not a truly bad model, there are plenty of those around! But for the price you would expect more or at least better quality! All over fit is pretty poor, it's definitely not a lovely Tamigawa "shake-n-bake" model, you have to work to get a nice model from it. No stores, just a centreline drop tank. Detail is pretty basic, just look at all the Maestro Models for all the lovely AM stuff available to sort out this model.

Strangely I have heard that the old Esci model (I built one nearly 40 years ago), is still a nice model to build, @JeroenS has shown that with his build.

But all said and done, the SH/Tarangus model is quite buildable...... it'll just increase you vocabulary of certain expletive words!! ...... :fuyou_2:

And you Aussies already have so large a vocabulary

Myself, I was thinking of going for the 1/72 Hasegawa next time I build a Viggen.

Thanks for hosting and thanks to all participants for making this enjoying. 2023 sounds good (though I’d never recognize the Macchiavellian thug Gustav’s ascendancy as a marker for Sweden becoming a nation 😛 ). Till next time!

  • trickyrich changed the title to Ragnar's Lounge and Grill - Nordic II Chat - Polls open

Ok the poll is up and will run until the 23rd midnight, so don't be late.

Due to the number of amazing builds in the aircraft section you get to have 2 votes just to make choosing just a wee bit easier.

Hi, looking forward to seeing it built!!

It is not bad at all

By far the best Viggen out there in 48th. Tarangus and Special Hobby are the same base model, the only distinguish in sub-variants so far.

BUT do not expect recent Tamiya quality. It simply is not. Take your time building.

There was also an upgrade done to some parts ~ 2years ago that correct some unfortunate errors. (Canards!!)

There are also numerous after market sets out there to improve even more detail wise.

Definitely do not dump the kit.... I'd  take it ;) especially this recce boxing

Voting done  thanks for setting it up! Congrats to all entries, all more than worthy!

Aircraft wise was a bit hard though..So much to choose from!

Couldn't decide which of the 4!! 48th Hasegawa Drakens was best ;)

So voted for something way older and smaller in the end.....

  • 2 weeks later...

Well the last bit of the GB is over, the polls have closed........ will they did last weekend and I forgot to check.

and the results for aircraft,

#1 @Torbjorn and his amazing scratchbuilt Thulin Type D, basically the engine and pilot the only none scratchbuilt parts!

#2 @modelling minion and his wonderful Draken.... next time he's promised to build a Viggen!

#3  @Bjorn and his beautifully finished Magister

and non-aircraft subject;

#1 @JeroenS with his stunning truck/crane build.... next time he's building a plane. :D

#2 @Angus Tura for his feisty fellows, they finally made it to the finish line

#3 @Parrahs, @Dermo245, @nimrod54 for there wonderful builds

... and well done to everyone else that made it into the gallery, sometimes the hardest part of the GB is having the time to finish a build. To those that didn't quite make it, a big thank you for joining and I do hope you manage to complete your build. The threads are still open here, or Enzo can help move them to the WIP section.

Hope to see everyone again for the next one....... not sure when that will be.

thanks

You never know!😉

Though as I have covered Sweden and Finland with the last two Nordic GB's I should really do something from either Norway, Denmark or Iceland.
