Tornado F3 display aircraft; 2000-2005

Hi all,

Does anyone have info on the 2000-2005 display schedules and ID's for those aircraft from 2000-2005 please?

My first airshow I attended was part of an event at Waltham Windmill, near Cleethorpes in the early 2000's. The other aircraft I recall were a Seaking and the BBMF Dakota.

I'm pretty sure the Tornado was a Coningsby bird and I would very much like to model it as it's one of only two F3's I saw fly.

Also, did the display F3's have any differences to the line aircraft?

Cheers,

Hi exdraken,

There's a good chance it was from 56 squadron and I can probably narrow it down to 2002/3.

The problem is I can find nothing of this show's existence on the internet. We have some photos from the day stashed deep in the family photo box, but I can't get to that at present.

Cheers,

The only airshow log I have to hand for that period is Culdrose.

56(R) Sqn provided the Tornado displays in 2000 and 2005.

In between the Tornado displays were a mix of 15(R) Sqn and MFG2.

ZE339 was used in 2000.

ZE258 was one of the spares that year.

I seem to remember ZG774 and ZE736 were a pair marked like this for the 2005 season.

  • 2 weeks later...

I took this picture in 2005 at Waddington and had the good fortune to meet The Display Pilot Fl Lt Richard Moyes call sign 'Dicko' and Navigator Fl Lt Gareth Littlechild call sign 'Gaz' who both signed by brochure they gave me which was given to me for a donation to charity.

56(R) Squadron were based at RAF Leuchars at the time.

If 1/48 is your chosen scale, Hannants have a 56 Sqn Tornado decal sheet.

Hope this helps,

Mark

There was an RAF Open Day at Waltham Windmill on 13th June 2004.  This was the same day as the Cosford Show, where the F3 was coded ZE813/XR. I'd speculate - and nothing more - that it might have been the same aircraft?

Edit - actually ZE812, not ZE813 [see below]

Holy cow, That's it. @XV107 Thankyou!

As little as I can remember from being a kid (would have been eight at the time) the Tornado had come from an air display and was on it's return.

There was also a BBMF Hurricane (LF363 I recall) and when i'm able to get to my Mum's after lockdown I should be able to ID the Sea King too from the photo I have in the photo box there.

Thankyou so much for the help everyone :)

Cheers,

EDIT: XR appears to be ZE812?

Un-noticed typo by me - no such aircraft as ZE813; it was ‘812.
