Remember pilot & co sit on buff coloured fluffy cushions, seat backs are a grey/blue colour.

Yep noted. I actually have 2 relocated from a Lynx into my Son’s Fiesta. I borrowed one of them when I did the 72Sqn Wessex. Seats are now painted and the crew are fixed in with map in hand. Photo’s to follow......I gave up going any further as it’s freezing in the garage.🥶

Well I had a few mins so glued the pilots in and added the map. Then glued the whole cockpit section in, which you may be able to see the problem. That’s this weekend planned for me.

I’m going to reset the side armour, but the pilots shoulders/helmets are just in line with the fuselage. So at a quick glance the seats perhaps need to come in.

Super work on the pilots, very realistic.

Thanks mate. I think I said to Sammy that this would be finished by April.🤔

Well I’ve fixed the space issue. I couldn’t move the pilots/seats because of conflict with the center console. So I cut the outboard attachments of the seats so the pilot in the seat can lean inwards enough to rest against the side glazing, yet head on they don’t look like they’re leaning. The instrument panel was attached at an angle but the fitting would have you fit it horizontally. I cut 2 strips of 10thou plasticard and placed the instrument wiring over then and securing by gluing. A bit if artistic license and the wires go over the forward edge. I don’t think you’ll see it anyway once the front piece glazing is on. That has also been painted on the inside but requires further coats. A couple of photo’s with the flash make everything look a bit weird. The warm air hosing next....

As always thanks for showing interest.

And this weeks instalment is the glazing and ventilation hose. As you may see I’ve added the hose from some threaded rod which was bent and attached to the instrument panel. The side doors have had 3 coats of black for the framing and then I’ve added the red stripes going up the leading edges of the doors. They were dry fitted and last weeks adjustments to the crew/seats worked. So I’ve superglued them in and there is a gap all the way around as alignment to the kit plastic is of the quality of the day (shocking). I’m conscious of filling them and you being able to see it from the opposite side. I’ll be doing the front piece this week and will file here and there to get the best fit I can. Not really looking forward to it as you just want it to at least fit.🤪

Well I didn’t do any modelling last week, with temperatures showing -7 degrees and my brush wash cup frozen, I wasn’t entertaining any modelling. I’ve since found out the front piece of glasing doesn’t fit anywhere near to the sides on one side. The bottom of the front piece does touch the kit, but as you can hopefully see there’s a large gap. I’m conscious of filling it and you being able to see the filler on the inside. So I’ve fitted 2 stripes of 10 thou plasticard and the front piece will then be glued this afternoon and then filled. The plasticard has been painted black on the inner face.

The front canopy is now on and glued in and PVA glue filled in to the gaps which will be smoothed when it settles down. The fit is absolutely shocking, I may have mentioned it. The side glasing sticks proud by 1-2mm and it’s very obvious. I’ll leave this for a bit or it will be hammered with reference to Basil faulty.

G'day Speedy,

You are certainly fighting the good fight to bring this golden oldie up to modern standards and what you have achieved to date is inspiring.

I am curious about how you plan to clean up the PVA 'filler' as although I have used PVA as filler before, I have always cleaned away the excess before it dried?

cheers,

Pappy

This weeks update is the clear plastic was sanded down and then micro meshed where it was really proud of the kit plastic. I’ve yet to re-Klear though. The 10thou plasticard fitted earlier is now holding the filler. It’s just waiting to go off then smoothed down and I’ll scribe a shut line. I’ll plug the hole in the roof so as not to get sanding dust in areas that I won’t be able to reach to clear it. The nose panel was added and whilst the filler was out I sealed up the gaps. Starting to look like a Puma now. Hey at this rate I might get it finished before they’re phased out!.

Hi pappy, I simply wipe it away when it’s nearly going off so it’s nice and thick, remaining in the groove but removed from where I don’t want it. I obviously hadn’t done that when the photo was taken. Don’t know how I missed your reply.

That has answered my question. I thought that you were going to sand of the dried glue, which I would not have thought very effective

Hi folks, well what a 3 weeks it’s been, all I’ll say is kids. Our son and his girlfriend have found a place and moved out courtesy of Dad and the use of his trailer. For most of the time the Garage (where I model) looked like a bomb site as they gathered stuff for the new digs. I wish I’d taken a photo as I’m sure it was a candidate for a hoarding programme. Anyway it’s now just my wife and I plus the dogs and oh it’s quiet. So I managed to pick this up again during the week and this weekend. The roof instrument panel is now in with the roof panel on top of that. I noticed some mesh structure on the real think so the grooves on the kit were filled in and I’ve added the finest mesh I’ve got and cut 2 shapes out and glued the on top to give a nod to the real thing. The intake filters were made up but their fit to the intakes are poor. Research showed there to be strikes on the flat surfaces between the holed panels, so silver lining and all that. They were added with strips of plasticard and had their ends tapered, then glued into the kit. I’ve still got work to do on the filler around the roof panel.

More nice work there Speedy.

The strakes that you see between the holed panels are not what they seem. Whilst I was in the Gulf it was found that the PIPs were not working correctly in that they were not clearing all the sand, some was going into the engine and wrecking some part of them. So what the boffins back in the UK came up with was bigger tubes so more air could flow through, but to allow this a slightly modded panel was to be fitted which was now pointed not flat. We spent many a day and night fitting the new tubes and panels so that the Pumas could carrying on flying during this time.

Hi all, I had time off at Easter and managed to do zero modelling. Now back at work my attitude is now do a little of what you like each day. I’ve made progress in that the door cavity’s have been filled after sanding, they just need refinishing. The landing light housing underneath is now fitted. I brushed out the sanding dust from inside the canopy and added a dome to the back of the landing light or else you’d see straight into the cockpit. I’ve added the antennas to the nose and made the supports out of plasticard. I’ll added the actual antennas later as already one is snapped on the sprue. I drilled the frame with holes around the MAWS(?) boxes.

So here is the latest update with it being a year ago tomorrow I started it:lalala:. I’ve sanded down the filler on both sides of the doors. The antennas at the front aerial fit have been glued and added (they were broken on the sprue). The hydraulic lines around the stabiliser have been added and the 2 port side mounts for the aerial wire. I’ve re-added the cowling handle which broke off months ago and I think I’m at the point now to start masking and priming. I’m fully anticipating some rectification work but the bulk of the build is done. There is more on the horizon though as the image that in my head is still on track and achievable. I put the MRH on for the photos but it’s not fixed on yet. The tie down hooks are also yet to be added once I work out how I’m going to position them.
