1/72 Fine Molds Messerschmitt Bf-109K4 "Red Tulip"

Recommended Posts

Dear fellow Britmodellers,

another Bf-109 fresh off my workbench - the "Red Tulip" (aka "Green 4") of JG 52.

This particular aircraft was allegedly piloted by famous ace Hermann Graf.

Decals from Eagle Cals, painted with Gunze/Mr.Hobby acrylics.

My attempt to paint the nose tulip using self-cut masks failed due to the curvatures of the front section - I struggled to get the masks lined up straight.

Instead I used the decals provided by Eagle Cals.

They worked well, although cuts had to be made around the air intakes to make them conform to the surface structure, as well as some touch-up with brush paint.

The result is far from perfect, but the best I could achieve!

Photographs by Wolfgang Rabel.

Great Job Roman !

I particularly like your Mötling ! it look great !

The Tulip is pretty right to me.

Very tempting markings since there is no Spiral Schnauze...

Congrats !!

Sincerely.

Roman,

It is very impressive the level of detail that you are able to achieve in such a small scale.  Your artistic skills are superb and you serve as an inspiration for many us, myself included.  :worthy:

Great! Any idea what the white lines on the tailplane signify?

And what are these lines ?

Good question, indeed!

I did some research and interviewed some 'experts' on this issue.

As it turns out, the stripes are either fast-recognition aids (for aerial combat), or, according to another theory, merely a reflection of light on the elevators misinterpreted from an original photograph.

Eagle Cal Decals EC#62 provide the stripes on the sheet and I followed their suggestion.

Roman, it is always a pleasure to see another 109 from you. You have a way of building them that is always so well crafted and consistent, and with your photography you capture the shapes and colours of these aircraft beautifully. I envy your growing 109 collection! Do you have a picture of your shelf with all of them together? 😉

Superb build and excellent finishing. I've got several 109 builds current but although I'm a reasonably confident airbrush user I've never done a Luftwaffe little scheme. Your build has inspired me to have a go!

Thanks

Hi My Friend Roman!!!

Congratulations for this new Masterpiece!!!

Have seen you have returned back to your more natural subjects and was wondering which kit have you used this time as there are a nicest details in all the build...until I read the headliner saying it is the Fine Molds bird...really liked a huge lot!!! Have watched the nice craftsmanship you had put in this build and seem you got back with renewed energy, seem the quarantine is making good time for modeling to you.

Keep on and go modeling!!!

Thank you very much for sharing!!!

Cheers,

Luis Alfonso
