Cyber-hobby Sea Venom (?) ++ FINISHED ++

Hi,

Late entry :   Cyber-hobby Sea Venom.

Now, I know there are some issues with the kit, and that we have Sea Venom Royalty visiting this site, and that my low-skilled modelling attempts to do this subject justice are likely to cause offence.....     but I've eaten my Weetabix, so here goes :)

"Look Ma, it aInt started..."

Probably the most over-engineered non-visible part in the world.....

DSCF0088

Engine consists of no less than 12 parts (excluding intakes) .  None of them visible in the assembled result !  Why ???!!!!

"None of them visible in the assembled result !  Why ???!!!!"

As I recall, when John @John Masters built the land version of this kit in the Scandinavian GB, there was an "engine cover" panel on top that could perhaps be left loose to show the interior engine detail - otherwise it does seem a bit of a waste of plastic and effort. Having said that some companies these days give you an awful lot of internal detail, particularly in the cockpit, and in many cases very little of it is seen. I guess it is a matter of striking a balance between putting everything in for the purist, and leaving most of it out to make a nice quick and hopefully cheaper build for the rest - bit like some Hobby Boss products. I like a reasonable amount of detail but as I get older and my hands get shakier I increasingly prefer a simpler build, particularly when I overstretch myself by getting into multiple GB simultaneously!

Got to better than my ancient Frog version!

Cheers

Pete

There is indeed an engine cover panel.

At the moment trying to decide between wings folded or wings extended.

Going to be a closed cockpit build, so relative lack of interior  detail shouldn't be an issue.

Today the nose went on.

Instructions say add weight...  fortunately the space in the nose

and in front of the cockpit tub is absolutely cavernous so I've used

up all my fishing weights.  No way this one will be a tail-sitter !  :)

Tail boom assembly fits to fuselage very nicely, none of the horrors of

the Xtrakit Sea Vixen here !!   :yahoo:

Definitely not going to be a tail-sitter....

Next grumble....  which sadist decided it was a good idea not to tell you about the instrument panel decals until AFTER everything was assembled ??!!

Good job I spotted it before putting the canopy on !

Looked long and hard at doing this one wings folded - nothing shouts 'Navy' quite like folding wings - but after inspecting the plastic hinge parts it's quite clear that the tiny plastic 'neck' part just isn't going to take the weight of the wing.

So its plan B and wings extended....

  • 2 weeks later...

Decal time.

The wingtip tank decals are the work of Beelzebub himself.

Once dry, going to keep a lot of varnish to keep them in place.

  • IanHx changed the title to Cyber-hobby Sea Venom (?) ++ FINISHED ++

Very nice! Brings back memories of the Matchbox 1/32 Sea Venom I built over 30 years ago (although my main memory of it is the hinged canopy, which closed itself in an earthquake in 1984!).
