My double build of both versions of the early Airfix Blenheim are now done.

A very enjoyable time was had by me, either version would have kept me happy. Doing both was pure over the top indulgence, but well worth a go.

Belatedly.......

Revell 1/32 Hurricane 1. Largely OOTB, I sanded/removed the majority of the raised rivet details and rescribed panel lines predominately on the wings. All brush painted woth Revell acrylics. Markings are for Robert Stanford Tuck November 1940.

Panzer Kampfwagen II Ausf. F

1/35 Tamiya. The kit was originally released in 1971, so almost as old as me, originally built in the lates 70s/early 80s. I believe it was my first 1/35 scale kit.

Dassault MD450 Ouragan. IDF/AF 1956 with the stripes applied as part of Operation Kadesh, the Israeli contribution to the Suez Crisis.

Heller 1/72 kit built entirely OOB - even the support underneath used the kit sprue :D

Painted with AK, Vallejo and Akan acyllics and inks.

The BMF is by various Vallejo “Metal Color Airbrush Colors.  These are the only paints I’ve used to date that actually are ready with no thinning.  It can also be used to touch up with a brush and still looks shiny.  All much better than the Humbrol or Airfix gloss silver I used back in the 70s.

But what a fantastic looking plane.  No wonder little Malpaso enjoyed building this, the Shooting Star and Sabre Dog.

Cheers

Will

Two identical 80’s Airfix Harriers. The green camo wrap, built as I would have as a kid following the Airfix instructions, no decal solution, no weathering, no filling, just as is.

But the second, to be built as I would today. Rescribed panel lines, filler, weathering, PE, spares from the spare box, better decals and a crack at white artic camo wrap. White paint, my nemesis!

And finally, side by side

Airfix 1/72

Northrop P-61 Black Widow

'Lady in the Dark'

Here is my first completion for the GB, Airfix's venerable Black Widow, originally released in 1967, this is the 1986 boxing, but I would imagine I built it first sometime around the mid-70s.  Built out of the box with some scratched details for the front and rear 'offices' and some left over Lancaster resin gun barrels for the top turret. I used AK's Worn Effects solution to get the chipped and worn paint look.  Decals are by Printscale. The model is weathered only with weathering powder this time:

The big old Stirling finally gets to appear in the Gallery!

Endless over complicating by me as to what base and accessories to use got in the way of what should have been a much quicker build. Lesson learned!

Having said that, I really enjoyed building the model and all the bases. the build is nothing fancy, a straight out the box effort that I'm using as a warm up for another Stirling build later down the line.

Another completion from me.

This time it's the Airfix 1.72 scale Spitfire from the sixties. A real memory jerker for me and just about anyone who built kits back then.

And the finished model here...

As usual, an out the bag build, nothing added except paint. No prop blades, they looked rather thin when tried. Likewise the undercarriage. To me, Spitfires look a bit wrong sat on the ground. Selecting gear up gives me a chance to use the kit stand instead. Result!

I used the Airfix bottles shown. The Duck Egg Blue went on like Polyfilla, hence the lack of underside shots. The yellow took two coats and the Airfix dark green was tried, found to be almost black, and then substituted with Humbrol paint instead.

The original transfers worked just fine, although I got the starboard codes a bit wrong in relation to the fuselage band. I thought the 'J' would dissapear if applied over the band, so left a green outline instead. Wrong, but I would have been proud of my get out as a kid.

Tony.
