Delahaye 135 (Henri Chapron coach builder) by Heller 1/24 scale

Recommended Posts

The inner side of the bonnet have been covered with a sheet of paper, in order to mask the hinges whose parts are rather ugly, and painted semi-gloss black, as it was often the case in this period (probably also to distribute the engine heat better).

So when the bonnet will be folded, the visual appearance will be better and neat :)

I've just placed the grill without glueing it to see how it goes, and it looks correct.

So it remains to glue it, delicate task because I've to install simultaneously, at the right place, the bonnet...

Morning gentlemen :)

Grill and bonnets are now fixed on the body, and all went well !

It remains to block the rear end of the central hinge's shaft, cause there's too much play, and, if possible, to fabricate "latches" to lock the vertical parts of the bonnet (The right side will be folded, but the left side need to lower a bit and to be retained , otherwise it tends to lift a little bit)

Those latches of course must be unlock, to allow the opening of bonnet.

Furthermore, I think I'm going to place a decorative chrome rush at the junction of "grill + front part of the triangular pieces" with the fenders and the surrounding of the grill, where the fenders join.

To be continued....😎

Good luck with those latches...rather you than me mate 😱

Stunning car and build.

Good evening mates :)

Well, the first (left) one is done:

- Brass tube 0.8/0.5

- Steel wire 0.3, shaped

- Brass tube 0.6/0.3

- A 1.0 mm brass washer

- A 0.8/0,4 mm PE washer

- A 0.8 mm hole in the fender

- A 0.5 mm hole in the vertical portion of the bonnet

CA glue

- A LOOOOOT of patience and a serious headache  after 5 hours hard work !

The latch resemble a PRELAC pre-WWII, but it's just a fake, coz impossible to reproduce the genuine device at this scale.

However it works !! Not perfectly (I've not reached my goal, prevent the left half-bonnet to lift a bit) , but it works !

The hole on the vertical left part of the bonnet, with its surrounding, simulated bay a PE washer

The latch:

51984890683_3b64b096cf_c.jpg

The system in place:

51985113529_5fa5e522ae_c.jpg   51985380485_614c6b6c92_c.jpg

It remains to fill the hole on the top of the 0.8 mm brass tube and to paint all this stuff with Molotov Chrome

Stay tuned for next steps (right latch, chromed rush around the grill and fenders ) 😎

PS, I know it's not the issue right now, but the side windows opened is a total win!! They look great.

And 👌on the bonnet fit

Thanks for your kind comment, @rob Lyttle, much appreciated .

However, if I really deserve it for the bonnet (It's an assumption, nota statement) , regarding the windows, It's far to be perfect !

Indeed, logically, if the profile of the top of the door is rounded, the glass should be rounded too. I'd planed to do this when I thought about the projet, but forgotten to do it  when cutting the plastic !

Shame on me !

Shame on me ! [No shame allowed on this build]😉

I'm generally  a slow builder, but recently I grafted a turbo on my mind and hands, so, tonight still a new progress !

I've placed the chromed rush around the grill and the front of front fenders.

Disappointed with the fitting of the half-left bonnet, despite of the addition of a latch...It's been hard to adapt !

The end of this build is coming soon with all accessories: right bonnet's latch, lights, signals, bumpers, licence plates, fuel tank cap, lid handle...and wheels of course

I'll try to make white sidewall tyres, and I'm waiting for the delivery of Tamiya XF2.

Maybe I'll add horns above the front bumper and retro-reflectors under the rear bumper ?

Stay tuned if you like, before switching on my MB 300 SLR :)

Fantastic progress,  the crome rush is particularly well done.

I've had great success using an elmer's white paint marker with a fine tip to make white walls

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/393901796217

Amazon also stock them

Plus its ever so easy as you simply use the pen to draw on several thin layers (letting the paint dry between each coat).

This method is what I used on my Fiat below - Andy

Afternoon mates :)

The right latch has been made and placed:

 51986249014_da24df1eca_c.jpg   51985959751_0765f3bbd4_c.jpg

I'm currently working on signals which need a lot of work to be closest as possible with the real thing.

The same way, I've to modify the fuel cap.

A last, I've to de-chrome the bumper's fixture and repaint them steel or polished aluminum.

Stay tuned if you like :)

Evening gentlemen :)

Todays's work:

- Front lights assembly: 2 headlights, and 2 fog lights

- Painting of the rear lights, 3 colors

Front lights:

- Each embase's centre has been drilled 0.4 mm, and a short section of 0.3 mm piano wire has been threaded in the holes

- On the fenders, 4 holes have been drilled at the centre of each glueing mark

- So each light will be correctly places, inserting the pin in the fender hole

- To simulate the yellow bulb of each light, a drop of Tamiya Yellow clear has been placed on the bottom of the shells

Rear lights:

- Each embase's centre has been drilled 0.4 mm, and a short section of 0.3 mm piano wire has been threaded in the holes

- On the rear fenders, it remains to drill the holes which will receive the pins, but here, there are no markers to help me position the lights correctly, so, I've to do some measurements and tries before drilling

- Each light has first been painted the same dark blue than the fenders, then I've masked the blue, leaving a 0.5 mm ring at the rear end of the light's shell. Secondly, I've painted the non-masked part of the lights with chrome

- Third, after unmasking, I've clear coated the lights with Future (Pledge Gloss Floor)

- Fourth, after full drying, I've painted the cabochon of the two lights with Tamiya Clear Red

This microscopic job took 8 hours, included time for drying between each layer !

51987458925_b19783b541_c.jpg   51987460175_547a8828b6_c.jpg

The fuel cap has been de-chromed, sanded. A 0.4 mm hole has been drilled on its base and a 0.3 mm piano wire has been threaded in the hole.

A 0.4 mm hole has been drille on the body at the center of the marker  engraved in the plastic, and the fuel cap will be well centered, using this method.

The top of the fuel cap had a molding defect and I've covered it with a drop of UV resin

It will be painted Polished aluminum and clear coated too.

The bumper's fixtures have been de-chromed and will be painted soon.

The shine of the bumpers if frankly too flashy, and I'll dull it by spraying a very thin layer of Gravity Chrome.

I'm waiting for the delivery of Tamiya matt white XF2 and of a White marker, coz, as I said previously, I'll try to make while sidewall tyres.

Stay tuned if you like😎

Morning chaps :)

Front lights have been placed and glued (with Micro Kristal Liquid tape, which allows to reposition them as much as you want if needed)

Once satisfied, the position will be secured with CA glueing, by the inner side of the fenders.

The fuel cap too is in place.

51987060607_4a8dcc4b6d_c.jpg

Temporarily on its wheels:

51988354489_d8f1d3d07f_c.jpg   51987060557_9d362c448f_c.jpg

I've to modify the front bumper because its flat rectangular center, where will be fixed the licence plate, has suffered molding issues.

51987070917_d493f24685_c.jpg

My plan is to cut a licence plate, large and high enough,  from a styrene 0.18 mm sheet, plaint it chrome, and glue it on the bumper, before placing the decal.

Stay tuned for next steps :)

Afternoon gentlemen :)

The End is coming soon ! I can't wait to start building my Mercedes 300 SLR again, and other parallel project as well 😉

Meanwhile, A little bit of work
For some photos, I've installed the wheels
temporarily; I'm still waiting for the delivery of my Tamiya XF2 and white marker, to test if white sidewall tires would be pretty or not on this car.

Bumpers have been assembled , the licence plate and the decal are put on the front one

51987512252_4a9ca7b65f_b.jpg   51988584688_820cb641f7_b.jpg

Front and rear bumpers, and rear lights have been placed

51988584658_40fbf5ffe8_b.jpg   51988584678_2a15a231b0_b.jpg

51988584668_8878465e87_c.jpg

The exhaust line has been remade from scratch, because the supplied parts are not convenient.

51989089030_dfa148a2ab_c.jpg

I used 4.0 and 2.0 mm aluminum tubes, CA glue.

The rear of the exhaust pipe has been cut 45°, the wall thinned and the hole painted Tamiya Smoke

51989089040_87170ea534_c.jpg   51988820219_b844dbded6_c.jpg

51988532201_c5aa59a89e_c.jpg   51988591818_4ebc186108_b.jpg

51988820214_f9363647ce_b.jpg

It remains, except wheels, to paint and stick the side indicators, 3 colors (the stand Light blue metallic, the cabochon in Clear Orange, and its top in Chrome), another challenge, since this parts are very tiny( 3.0 mm x 2.0 mm)

51988532306_bacd3fd12a_z.jpg

And overall, to clean seriously the body, which is maculated by fingerprints and other stains, to polish again some portions, and to apply Tamiya wax, before a big photoshoot.

Stay tuned if you like 🙄

It's really coming to life with all the lights and other details.  I'm not sure if whitewall tyres will look good or not but it will be interesting to see the results of your experiment.

If you have a circular cutter you could make a ring out of white paper to get an idea of the look.

My two cents worth...

Template out of masking tape? Doesn't have to be that exact I would imagine.

I just painted roughly with Tamiya X2 (Gloss white) 3/4 of the circumference of a spare tire and have presented it on the car: not very convincing !

I'll do a real test with a White marker or Tamiya XF2 sprayed with airbrush after masking, and we'll see !

Morning guys :)

The side signals have been finished and the right one has been stuck on the body.

Unfortunately, the second one dropped off on the wooden floor and it's been impossible to find it 😡

Fortunately, I have a second kit with 2 signals 😎

So the left one is currently drying and will be placed on the body ASAP  🙏

Afternoon everybody :)

Well, the left signal is painted and stuck on the body.

This build is quite achieved, but the wheels are still missing.

I've received today  the Tamiya Mat white XF2, but I forgot to order a special rule you can use as stencils to draw circles or paint disks of various diameter.

I'm waiting it for tomorrow, so, this WE, if everything goes well, you could see this beauty  entirely finished 😉

I let you guessing which wheels I'll use, the chromed ones, or the blue ones ? with white sidewall or not ?

Stay tuned for the answer :)
