Schwarz-Brot
It is also a good practice part for 3d modelling. Simple geometry, can be done with very few operations and is a nice usecase for the pattern tool.
CrazyCrank
Evening chaps After having fought a couple of hours with Fusion 360 (I'm quite a pure newbie with this software), I've drawn the first part of this knob. On the screen this piece seems to be very accurate and to be large, but, in reality, at this scale, once 3D printed, it will be very small, quite 2 mm wide and 3 long; so, all the work I've done to draw it won't be visible. Anyways, it's been a very good entertainment for learning to use Fusion. It remains to draw the articulated mechanism that goes from the knob to the windshield. Some pictures for the fun: Stay tune if you like, next step tomorrow evening

Easy isn’t it? you’re already ahead of me, I could never use it in French 😎 under the save/file menu, you can save a screen shot BTW, which I use all the time. CrazyCrank
Evening Chaps Not a big progress these last days, but... I've finished to draw on Fusion 360 the knob and articulated levers that simulate the mechanism that open slightly the windshield. Hereunder some screenshots of "the Thing": . It remains to 3Dprint all the components with my Elegoo Mars, and this will be done this week. The knob will be 2.5 mm wide so, not very visible, but I know (we know now) that it will be there ! And I've finished the steering column and steering wheel: I hesitated between painting the wheel as the dashboard (a wooden wheel) and painting it black , and finally I've decided black, in order to match closely with the color chart I chose before. Stay tuned if you like and thanks for watching and for your patience (I'm not Speedy Gonzalez as a modeler )

CrazyCrank
Hi everyone I'm actually 3D printing the windshield knob. the first print was rather good but extremely fragile, and broke at the finest point. I've so modified the Fusion drawing, and the second printing is actually processing: 1h35 for 407 layers and then cleaning and hardening with my new Elegoo Mercury wash and cure. Hopefully, it'll be good...wait and see An overview of the 3D slicing software and of the part to be printed : See you soon on this channel
CrazyCrank
Hummmmmmmmmm, it seems things worked 😎 Here's the result of the second try: And once supports removed, near the dashboard : It remains to glue it in place with a lilliputian drop of CA, and there, I can't afford to make a mistake ! And then, other very difficult job, to paint il black for the knob and Chrome silver for the bracket and mechanism levers But that's another story, to come soon... stay tuned if you like

Here’s a tip from my recent obsessive printing experience. if you want 1 thing, print 6. Things that small cost nothing and it doesn’t take one second longer to print. looks good though. CrazyCrank
Good afternoon Gentlemen Dashboard finished with the last part glued and painted in place. It's possible that I re-make the mirror because the reflecting part has suffered damages during the handling The close-up pictures are merciless. Fortunately with the naked eye, all the defects are not visible

CrazyCrank
Morning chaps It will be more pleasant once the steering wheel is in place. Quick dry fit to show you the future assembly Let you imagine how this will look once installed in the cabin ! rob Lyttle
Hi CrazyCrank.....! 😎 I just found this thread as I searched for Delahaye 135 builds. Result. I have one now, and I could be building it in the Heller Group Build once I have the Talbot Lago T26 GP racer finished. As usual it looks like your WIP is crammed full of insights, information and advice. I'll go back to the start and go through the lot, for my education. I don't think I'll be getting involved with any micropart 3d printing though 😲 When I Googled Delahaye 135 I couldn't believe the number of variations and each one more stylish than the other. Then I tried 145, and 165....‼️ It's absolutely remarkable. Any way, I'm very glad to have found this WIP my friend, and in spite of all the trials of the build, I'm looking forward to having a go with mine. 🤩
CrazyCrank
Thanks so much for the huge compliment , @rob Lyttle This build is in stand by, because I had to make progress on the MB300 SL, and also because I'm still looking for the better way to scratch 70 spokes spoked wheels for this Beauty. I've the ideas and the plans, but need a lot of free-time without being disturbed to achieve the job and reach my goal, so, have to wait a bit...
rob Lyttle
OK, I'm sure you will solve the unsolvable in your own time. I'm just pleased to have spoked wheel parts in the kit, after doing time with the ancient Merit kit wheels! . So I'm planning to use the Heller parts as supplied, and enjoy the ride. Everything is a bonus after doing one of these.... 👍
rob Lyttle
CrazyCrank, I know you like scratch work with brass, solder and nickelling for details, bonnet hinges etc. But I thought you might like to see this. Thinking about my Delahaye 135, and inspired by what you've made, I just made a prototype hinge from pie dish Ali and a brass rod. This is much more inside my capabilities. It's a bit flimsy to be handled but I think it will be OK in position between 2 pieces of the bonnet. If my 2nd one is better than that, I might try to use hinge joints on the car. The hinge is nice and thin and the Ali that shows on top can be polished up. First time for me! 😎

It is something I have in the spare box, I used it for the trial. I used a drill bit to form the tube shapes, I think it's about 0.6mm.
Roy vd M.
The Fusion 360 drawing as well as the printed result of the knob look awesome. I might even say that I didn’t expect the knob to have resulted in such high quality. Although I really look forward to seeing your work on the 1/8 Bugatti resumes, your smaller scale work is not bad at all either.

I have just been reading through your earlier pages and looking for inspiration for doing the Delahaye bonnet hinges. I'm not feeling too confident about it. But I HAVE done the 2 thin rushes on each side and the chrome plastic parts too. I use this stuff quite a lot.... The sticky back self adhesive Ali foil that builders and plumbers use for insulation and all sorts of things. I do whole aircraft with it for the bare metal finish. I also did the rear mudguards with it, the front flashing.... You can see where I've wrecked some of the blue paint in a careless moment, but that will touch up easily again. On the little narrow strips, you can go too wide and then trim it with a blade and peel off the extra. 😎

Noel Smith
The smooth aluminium plumbing tape is much more forgiving than bare metal foil and burnishes well.
