Great to see the best 1/72 J-79 Phantoms are being re-released but, if that colour (color) rendition is accurate there'll be some questions over the accuracy of the blue and the red.

This look better? Not perfect, but I think it's closer.

All I did was set the black and white points. In other words, areas that should be black are set to 0,0,0 and areas that are white to 255, 255, 255. Everything else adjusts accordingly. (The Insignia Blue areas end up 7,14,43. A bit dark perhaps.) Hopefully when FM (or whomever) prints these sheets they'll be correct. I'd love a T-Bird Spook in my collection!

Cheers,

Bill

As Pete says, the #4 Thunderbird flew directly behind the lead jet. Phantoms are notorious for their smoky exhaust plumes so what you are seeing is simply the soot deposits from the #1 jet on the tail. Later modifications reduced the amount of smoke generated by the J79 but never entirely eliminated it.

Here's a video of the Thunderbirds F-4Es in action. You can see the deposits on #4's tail at about 5:30:

  • Homebee changed the title to 1/72 - McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II by Finemolds - (R)F-4C/D/E/EJ & J released - new boxings in 2024

US$30-ish apiece

except the Blue Angels bird is about $10 more; it appears to come with a pilot figure and weapons. The latter make no sense at all.

Hoping the F-4E Kurnas would have some of the later IDF upgrades, but it looks to be an earlier E from 1973.  IDF decals i have already.  Still a great price for a great kit.

It kinda does. It has the AIM-7's on the sprue, which are needed for a display Blue Angels jet.

I mean, I appreciate the extra weapons, but 10 bucks is 10 bucks.

Nothing wrong with the picture. Number 4 got a black tail from all the soot those J79's produced. It is accurate.

Thank you.

Didnt expect, it will not cleaned maniacally.

No need to mention about the charcoal briquettes - I'm former Phantom mechanic. 😎😁

Then again, $10 for the FM weapons set is less than I paid.  ;)

Cheers,
