I feel your pain, John - literally, I did cut through two fingers while modelling this week :wall:

Nice progress though :clap2:

Ciao

aaaaargh what’s going on. Too much slicing of digits going on here me thinks.

Hope yours gets better soon.

Yes so have I but I am resisting as I will see if I can learn from your build and save some dosh too , hope the thumb is okay.

Keep up the good work

Thanks Chris. My thumb is healing rather quickly which is nice. 👍

Yep done it myself, too many times.

All looking good on the seat sir.

Seat looks great :) looking forward to the rest of the tub.

Hope the thumb heals up soon!

Not intentional but the plaster is off and all is good thanks.

Done that to my thumb many times! Just bought some 22 blades for the ancient big scalpel! Or thumb splitter as I call it.  Nice work on an oldie. My output has stopped as I try and work out if it’s hayfever or an allergy to tamiya extra thin 😟

Oooh hope you get yourself sorted soon kid.

All your questions answered here!

Right got it. I’m sure I can find something in the spares box for that 🙌.

Jayzus lads, it's not a competition...

Most handsome progress on the seating Johnny,  good to see you transferring surgery from yourself to the actual kit! (Hope it's healing swiftly mate.)

I know. I should know better. All better now. Seat no 2 is coming on a treat.❤️

2 hours ago, Pete in Lincs said:

I must be the third one then. I managed to cut a slot in the end of my right thumb while picking up my No22 swan Morton scalpel. Doh!

The fumes have been causing me problems all week, though I have been pretty liberal with it as I've had large areas of plastic card to glue down.

Oh, I think there was a nice WIP of a seat somewhere here...?

Slot!!!! 🤮😭 hope you’re ok kid. Mine is getting a lot better. Some progress today but I’ll update on Sunday.

take care my dears. Xx

Johnny, have you built any other revell/matchbox 1/32nd kits? I built the spit mk 22/24 and loved it but wondering if they are still worth the effort

Alas no. There is nothing that makes this one look bad other than some of the interior parts. Compared to today’s new tool offerings she’s showing here age but thus far she looks like a fine kit. Some work and there but that where the fun lies.  😇

Thanks for the info. Did you do a WIP perchance?

Sadly not.  It was before I was even on BM preferring the ATF in those days but I don't even seem to have a photo of it completed.  It's one of the few of my models that is languishing in a box in the loft that only comes out for shows because it's too big to display.  I'll see if I can get some photos done next time I go up there.

Great choice of aircraft indeed !! if the name start with Sea... What's not to love ??

No doubts that it will be a great build !!

That’s a shame. I would definitely love to see her. Such a shame to be in the loft. In your own time however. 😇

Oh wow. Only just got around to looking at some of that. It will indeed be useful, just hitting the IP.

Hey. Thanks for all the lovely comments. The next bit is a bit odd. I figured if I was doing this. (I know🤭🤔) and I fancied making some chairs. (🤣) can we call them chairs? 🤪🤣 well it would be nice to have a how too. I’m not saying they’re THE way or they’re are super accurate I’m not even sure they’ll look ok in the end but I figured I’d do a step by step on the second Martin Baker Mk 4 ish ejection seat for this here Sea Venom.  If you’re bored easily please move o long to the next post.  ........

still here? Ok let’s get photo heavy. 🤓 it’s a little bit different to the first one and I haven’t even started on the belts yet aaaand after reading @NAVY870’s build of the same kit and learning of the cockpit it’s really not that accurate.... did I also mention the Accuracy? 😂 sorry I’ll move on.

NOTE. Just remembered I already started this Before I stick my thumb 🤣. so errrm if you wanna catch up go back a few posts.

OK Here we go.

49801667143_68fa93b72d_b.jpg

Snip or slice off any excess plastic after it’s dried. (Mind yer thumbs kids)

Now for the mid pad. The thickest card I had was 1mm so I had to cut three bits like this.

49802112526_84d69c8b6e_b.jpg

Glued with Tamiya green top and clamped.

49802420297_49e1205a78_b.jpg

While that was setting I made the back pad from one square (ish) of 1mm card and sanded smooth.

49802420282_88afb02ab0_b.jpg

Glue is now set so I can smooth the mid pad.

49798972443_9f4d9c024c_b.jpg

Then dipped in hot water and bent slightly.

49799828822_a05555dd50_b.jpg Then Knick or cut with a blade to add some creases and sand with the corner of a sanding stick to add bends.

49799828537_73cb05f679_b.jpg

Next up the seat pad. Cut a 1mm shape like this.

49802420272_c5bcbeaa4c_b.jpg

And add some bits for the bottom and sand at an angle.

49799825317_bb38d7c22b_b.jpg

Bend the back pad with hot water like before then glue everything in place.

49798968553_24c2382b54_b.jpg

Size check! (All good)

49799829067_9116c2d6f3_b.jpg

Next up is the top folded thing. You’ll need four triangles. Two here.

49802522822_7c8da31585_b.jpg

And another two, add lashings ofTamiya green top to make it saggy.

49802522757_e5997f4793_b.jpg

Nice! 🤩 by the way this is super thin card. I used the same card to make a panel for the rear.

49802522777_830a9fb797_b.jpg

Then I glued some spare PE around the base for detail.

I raided the spares box for something that could be use for the rear elements.

I think this is a rail and rocket from a swordfish,

49802409702_e21622f9eb_b.jpg

I cut two rails for the rear of the seat.

these are all a bit slimmer as the seat at the rear has less space in the office.

49802101901_55daf5d933_b.jpg

The pole type parts are made from some plastruct pipes, I cut them down and squeezed the end with some pliers to make them flat.

49799825392_7d4e3aef49_b.jpg

drilled holes then got some thinner plastruct.

49798970603_e004326255_b.jpg

Glued this together to get this shape.

49801562258_4963e95279_b.jpg

Everything got popped on the rear, not the full thing as the seat mounts ( which I’m aware aren’t there in real life ) get in the way but you won’t see. These are bigger and deeper on the main seat.

49802420287_30a36d3a85_b.jpg

I then punched out a 2mm disc and drilled it.

49802112351_932ce41360_b.jpg

And stuck it on.

49801821113_95aa4b12ab_b.jpg

Made some 0.5mm rivets and stuck them in too.

49798968788_51da40f4ca_b.jpg

Here’s a test fit. Man those other parts need some work.

49798969078_ff2f94fd07_b.jpg

primer added. And a proper dry fit of the tub.

49799522576_d05dd183f6_b.jpg

Thinking about it I should have put that half firing gun on the other way around but it’s in now.

49799828982_e9f59942b0_b.jpg

looking pretty snazzy, I will paint them and add pie foil belts, pre painted afterwards to make everything super busy. So next is what to do with the IP. 😇 I’m not going to go crazy with re shaping the main office but I thank @NAVY870 for the ref shots in his build.
Thanks for sitting through that. If even one person makes use of this I’ll be happy.

gotta fly I have groceries to drop at my folks. Take care out there and as always.

Happy modelling.

Johnny. 😇

Just before bed I thought I’d share the state of play.

49803797162_8ea994e014_b.jpg

I got the main fuselage and did a dry fit of the office.

49802940113_a2f2fe52a7_b.jpg

Looks like everything should fit and I’m really impressed with the fit of the canopy.

49802940093_0c958c3165_b.jpg

There are a few details I have to add though. Onward. 😇

Johnny.

Lovely work Johnny. The correct English is seat; a seat is usually a fixed item whereas a chair can be moved about.

Your tutorial on seat construction is excellent; very easy to follow. You're a very resourceful bloke - kudos for that! And the end result (your cockpit) looks great!

Off now to beat the queues at Tesco! :fingerscrossed:

…adding some 'artistic ability' from the bottle on the shelf. If you have any spare I could do with some. Actually a lot :D

Good to see the punch set in use.

You know what's coming don't you?

How about a little tray that goes under the die block to catch all the little circles?

Not essential but really, really useful.

Hmmm. Surely being thrown out of an aeroplane by explosive charges and rockets counts as being “moved about”? :)

Hello Spad !!

Great bang seats !!

I love the way you improve yours !!

I frequently use slices of thin plasticard instead of thick one...

Easier to cut and so... Safer for the fingers....

Did I mention fingers ???

OOOOOPS !!
