Hey. Hope you all had a splendid bank holiday. I’d planned on more venom but got caught up with other things.😨

Some action was had however.

I tested to see if the engine cover fitted. I expected it not to.

49939963517_107da85cc0_b.jpg

Wow!!! Right off the bat. That never happens. To be honest I need to thin it down a. It but “Daym” 🤗

I added some more wires and made a brace bar from plasticard. That’s just a dry fit, I’ll paint and weather before fitting.

49939668601_b6876ec126_b.jpg

I’m quite happy with that. I made some little rivets from cut lead wire too. 🤩

While holding the airframe together I noticed this.

49939674791_7d500c970e_b.jpg

What? You can’t see it?

A space for weight. 😜 I was worried about adding so much to the nose cone

i can spread the load and add some here too. (No I’m not opening up the front) 🙃

49939975157_8cf97b8d74_b.jpg

Some computer weight things they were chucking out at work. I knew they would come in handy. 😍 feeling lucky I did a dry fit of the front well.

49939975147_e911a85f03_b.jpg

Gadzooks!!!!! 😳 ok I have one more before it all goes to shhhh(effield) 🤣

Seam filling was applied with lashings of PPP .

49939148558_e65a31525e_b.jpg

And tother side.

49939674836_ff797c579d_b.jpg

While that dried I scribed the outer wings.

49939148463_ee728baa5a_b.jpg

And began to look at these bits.

49939668691_4b0214bb56_b.jpg

She’s actually going to be huge. 🙀

This is where plastic halted.

I have spent the last two days sanding this.

49939153848_7285899335_b.jpg

Still not finished but getting there.

49939148668_a2a40be335_b.jpg

After deciding not to yacht varnish again I have to sand the underside and back

too. 😫 I’ve ordered something called “Osmo” to oil it in the next few days.

In case of rain today was spent.

49939668646_480691d180_b.jpg

Sewing a cover from my old tarp.

49939968977_0b99c11fea_b.jpg

There we go, I can fit the little table under there too.  🤗

49939963587_83e46ef07a_b.jpg

Thanks for dropping by.
I’m back at work tomorrow so back to regular Updates.

Take care and as always. Happy modelling.

Johnny. 😇

Lovely Pew too Cuthbert, the Osmo stuff is brilliant (and comparatively expensive) but definitely the best stuff I've ever used on wood. I did our log cabin in some coloured stuff and it's lasted 3 Cornish gale filled and salt laden winters without problem and recoating takes minutes with no preparation.

Cracking Venom by the way, you're taking it up more than a few notches.

Looking fantastic there bud :) If you want to add cables with texture then take a look at vape coil wire, especially stuff like Clapton wire.

Gotta ask why you don't smooth the PPP down with the good ol Mk.1 finger dipped in H2O? Is it easier to sand it smooth?

Thanks Ced. It’s amazing the amount of things your learn via modelling that you can put to good use in 1:1 scale land. 🙌

I’m glad you said that about the Osmo. It’s coated as of yesterday. Really bought out the Oak colour, so if you think it’s clear it isn’t but it is Really. Just like having wet wood. (Steady on Ced) 🤣. Oh and Thankyou for the kind words too. 🙌

So you also model in 1.1, ah? :D  Excellent job on both tasks  But why are going to hide the engine? :hmmm:

Ciao

Apparently so, I shouldn’t do too good a job, she’ll find me more to do.🤣 I’m not Hiding the ghost away. It’s good to pop The panel on now and then when in the cabinet. Changes the look. I did the same with my meteor and Me 109. It’s a bonus if they “just” fit. 👍😇

Thanks I’ll have a look at the wire. The pipes on this thing are pretty smooth though.

As for the smoothing PPP question. Well, if it was just a seam I was filling yes the finger lick works really well and has been bought into play quite a bit bit for bigger issues like this I’ve found PPP is so easy to shape and sand that having extra kicking around is actually quite a good thing. I’ll show you what I mean later when I post up some work on the Venom. 👍

Thanks for all your kind words.

see y’all later on. 🙌

Great work fella, the engine and engine bay is looking gorgeous and it's good to see the rest of the airframe coming together.

Great work on your cover for the lovely pew be too.

Keep up the good work

All the best

To be honest it would probably be slightly better for wiring. One thing that works quite well for coils is 2 wires twisted together. 1 side in a drill, the other in a clamp. Prepainted I guess it could be braided cables.

Apologies for the delay. It’s been a busy weekend.

49960954638_b1e8223159_b.jpg

I managed to get the pew sanded looking like a fool. 🤣 she’s now done and oiled.

49960955498_e9156625a6_b.jpg

Thank heavens. 😇

Just for @CedB I think it’s because my sanding is mostly plastic and PPP.

Before.

49961740037_96222a4461_b.jpg

And after.

49961457831_8c65d31bce_b.jpg

To be fair I scraped this with a blade but washing with an old toothbrush works too as I had to de clog the micro mesh pads too.

The top got sanded.

49961739887_c70b180c19_b.jpg

Roots and seams are ok. 🙌

The underside looks a bit like a scene from Miami vice! 🤣

49960955273_fe73b506c4_b.jpg

Here’s some primer. Still wet at the front.

49960954718_edb1b70883_b.jpg

The roots are looking good so far.

while that dried I took some weight from the nose and held it all in place with pva.

49960955248_16f7415ae9_b.jpg

More sanding took place until I heard the CrAck! 😫 the underside dose section popped apart.  Nothing for it but to add the front well section. Almost forgot to add the toooobs. But luckily only almost. 👌

49961456951_718efff069_b.jpg

Held in place with plasticard strips.

Tweaked into position. Their going to be fun to mask. 🤪

49960955238_c337368e31_b.jpg

Glued before more filler.

49961457136_e2088b6a52_b.jpg

And tother side.

49961457726_3448ac99d3_b.jpg

Aaaaaand more PPP

49961456966_952c4c8c8d_b.jpg

I’ll add some detail in there soon. 👌

While that dried I glued these.

49961739942_9128389d9d_b.jpg

That as they say is that. Fingers crossed I get some bench time this week.

Thanks for dropping by. This sanding has to be coming to an end soon right. 🤪

It will. I know it will. I bl...y know it will.

:frantic:

Excellent progress, Johnny!

As for masking those tubes: tiny little balls of blue tack, applied with a very pointy cocktail stick, that's what I do.HTH

Hi Johnny,

Very nice work on the plane and the pew (that's 2 p's for you, not quite PPP)

For cleaning my abrasives (ooer) I use a rubber pad I bought from Screwfix yonks ago - it's now called Titan Abrasive Belt Cleaner at £8.49 a pop - sounds a lot but I find it cleans everything - power tool sanding belts/pads, wet & dry, micromesh, steel files, mini-tool grindstones, everything so far

I bought 2 about 14 years ago and the first one is but part worn - I'd recommend anyone who does a lot of sanding, like most of us here I guess, get one

Onwards and upwards!

That sounds like a great tool, so good in fact that I remembered I have one! These 'senior moments' are a right pain…

Just used it to clean up some sanding sticks and you're right - it works well (especially if you don't press too hard).

Not on the not-quite-cured Milliput clogs though, sadly.
